I've seen a lot of window stickers in the last few years and they've all had some of the boxes grayed out, specifically in the lower left. Recently, mostly by accident, I had a PDF copy of one opened and inadvertently selected the text and I was surprised to see some "ghost" text selected in the gray boxes. Pasting it elsewhere I saw dealer names and addresses, so I'm wondering, why gray those boxes out? I doubt dealers have some expectation of privacy or other concerns about their name and address being visible. The very bottom box shows a "ship via" or something like that, and I think for those who chose the spray in liner it contains the address of the company that does the spray in liners. After my cut-and-paste find I noticed that when I load a window sticker in my browser I see the text for a split second before it's covered up.

Attached is a screenshot of a window sticker taken while it was about half loaded in my browser (none of the options and other details loaded yet, and you can see what was the spinning circle indicating that it was still loading). The second screenshot is of the same window sticker after it finished loading.

Most likely it's so the dealer can edit the information on the sticker, such as dealer added items, or change the dealer's name in case of transfer from one dealer to another.

I know in one of those boxes has my name. The sold to box and I would rather not have that out there for all to see.

That’s interesting, and that makes sense; I ordered my Ranger and the sold to box still has my dealer’s name and address. The other stickers I've checked also had the selling dealer in the "sold to" and "ship to" boxes, but to be honest I only checked a few.

The Dealers name will be in the ā€œsold toā€ box, not yours. The Dealer sells it to you. Even though you may have ordered it, it still goes through a Dealer.

That’s what I thought, and saw on the dozen or so random window stickers I checked. And dealer installed options and price adjustments seem better put into the white space in the large options boxes so this just seems odd to me. There must be a good reason that I can’t think of, even if it’s a legacy or outdated reason.
