Hey all, I was out wheeling a couple weekends ago and encountered an issue; just wanted to post about it so that it's here in case anyone runs into the same problem.

I was going downhill at a 2-mph crawl in 2nd gear in 4L. I decided to downshift to 1st gear to slow the crawl because I was in a group, and as soon as I did, I got a message on the dash, "pre-collision assist unavailable" and "service engine soon".

Basically the truck went into limp mode (torque felt funny wastegates wide open, etc.) until I stopped, checked the code, and frantically searched for a solution. Turns out the same exact thing happened to someone with a Bronco Raptor.

All I did was turn the engine off for 10 mins and the truck was completely fine. Didn't even have to disconnect the battery to reset the engine code. It's definitely a strange anomaly in the truck's torque computer that Ford doesn't really care to address.

Just wanted to post my experience with that error here in case anyone comes across it on their excursions!

Thanks for sharing.
That “turn the truck off for a few minutes” trick seems to work for several issues.
Crazy to me that the truck just fixes itself!

Aka, software glitch. It's not that it magically fixes itself, it's that there is a bug in the PCM code, a reset moves you out of what I call the "endless loop of stupidity" due to a programming error.

That's you we have to reset cell phones, computers, Cars or any other electronic control system. The reset just starts the logic over and ideally you either avoid the situation that exposes the bug OR you update the software to fix the bug.
