Long time listener, first-time caller...lol. I have a '24 Lariat FX4 with a retractable bed cover. Every time I get a carwash there is still quite a considerable amount of water that gets into the truck bed due to the gaps in the tailgate. Does anyone have any suggestions or have addressed this issue with weatherstripping? Is there a kit?

I used this product. Used two layers and fit it to the sides of the bed where it meets the tailgate.

Does it look pretty? Nope. Is it in a place where it needs to look pretty or will get noticed by anyone except me? Also nope.

I haven't taken it to a car wash yet but I was camping during a large storm and didn't notice much water had entered from that side.

The blue plastic tape is to prevent the stuff from sticking to itself, you are supposed to remove it after installation and it will look, well, if not fine, then 100% better than that mess.

I know what the purpose of the blue plastic is, like I said there are two layers of tape there.

If i remove it from this side, that sticky side will just collect dirt. I'd much rather see blue tape than a bunch of dirt and grime stuck to sticky foam. It would also adhere to the tailgate and start pulling the tape up.

If I cared about your opinion on how it looked, I wouldn't have said: "it doesn't look pretty but that doesn't matter". Worry about your own truck, not mine.

Using the wrong product (double sided adhesive) is the cause of that mess, there are plenty of single sided tape options that can be stacked on top of each other and they won’t attract dirt.

I'm still confused on why it matters, or why you care about the product I used on a hidden area of my truck.

The purpose is to keep water from getting into the gaps of the tailgate and it's working perfectly. If it's fulfilling the purpose as intended, it's not "the wrong product".

As said previously, if I cared about your opinion, I would have asked for it. I'm sure you'll gladly shell out $100 for a custom-fit product months from now that functionally works no better than my solution. My solution costs $10 and has been working great for over 2 months.
