My vehicle is a 2023 Ranger Raptor with only 17k miles on it. Been doin oil change every 3k miles, is it really metal shaving? Picture is taken from engine oil filler. Will this be a problem?

Following...

Just did my second oil change at 3k in my 2025 and still some little metal pieces in the filter, Wai less than first time.

Picture is from the inside of the plastic canister on the engine right? Never thought of looking in there...

You need to cut around the filter ends using a razor knife and open it up completely so you can see what is trapped in the paper pleats (folds). This is standard practice with aircraft engine filters. If you want to get more information, rinse the paper in a clean solvent and see what settles to the bottom of the container. If there are shiny specks, check to see if they are steel using a clean magnet. But most steel will be trapped in the oil pan magnet. (I assume that the Ford engines use one).

Send a drain sample for analysis so you know exactly what's in the oil. Do it at next oil change too so you can see if the metal contents are increasing (potential trouble) or decreasing (potentially not bad).

Did you look at your first oil change? If you think this is bad that was worse. I've seen this on every new vehicle I've bought so it's normal. It's also why I do the first oil change at 500 miles and only use Motorcraft filters.
