Great post but I'll do everyone one better! I come at this from GMRS side where the MXT575 has everything needed on the mic and you hide the unit. But, needed 50 watt Ham for EXO trips in Baja.
Enter the ICOM F5330D. Expensive, but the best unit in know of and "simplest" to install. Mount...
BD are the benchmark. Few people really need them but if you're running hard at night, they're what you want. Diode Dynamics also has some great front lights but BD remain best in class. I mounted 5 x LP6 on Foutz mount bar. LP9 might be too restrictive in airflow, but LP6 are awesome.
FWIW...
Its still all relative. Just met a guy on a trip who put $12k alone into soundproofing and upgrading his sound system on 2025 Raptor. Plus another $220k into bodywork, suspension and performance upgrades.
The goods news on the RR is you don't need to do anything under the hood beyond the...
Hi - that's my rig and, it is the stock brakes power-coated. I'm running Method 17" x +25 off-set but haven't upgraded the brakes yet.
But, I LOVE the portals! Just waiting on the K-NINE fenders which have been slightly delayed.
Great question and this is "do as I say, not as I do." The original builders used a basic system and had to drill holes in the bed. Not happy because we then had to add more holes when we relocated things.
Suggest @American Adventure LAb rails that they subsequently developed. Sorry I don't...
I'm running Method 703 in size 17" with 25 setback. Falken 37" x 12.5. You have poke so we're adding KNINE fenders shortly. But, I've ran a bunch of trips stock fenders.
Anti-sloshing inserts were another PIA with Rotopax mandated by California. We wanted to upgrade the crappy spouts to billet ones and couldn't without internal surgery.
Haven't seen or heard of any sloshing issues offroading hard in Baja with Tuffjugs (or.VP Racing jugs).as long as everything...
I'm a sticler for black which does add a little cost.
I'd suggest you contact AAL and get the McMaster-Carr specs of their bolts. I've done that on both my RR and Bronco for both AAl stuff and Trailrax on Bronco. And yes, I still have to replace the bolts on the Baja Designs lights as well...
I was in Baja with 2 other RR - one the 275 and one with 285 (I run 37" w/ portals). The 285 had slight rubbing with a small lift.
I can strongly recommend Falken Wildpeak R/T01. Work fairly quietly on the road and superbly off-road. The scalloped shoulders aid with shedding and also help...
Just used this set-up on Sunday in Joshua Tree on EXO adventure since the Broncos had much better range.
Apologies I don't have a picture of me pouring 5 gallons in but trust me - it is FAST!.
The jugs stay put in the AAL mount, they unlatch in seconds and, while the pour rate is constrained...
BajaHQ from San Juan Capistrano, CA. Top shelf shop that also has their own parts. Include some Baja Design Lights and antenna mount which we use with Ham radio in Baja and then switch antenna with GMRS radio in US.
The 3rd light stays on after the vehicle turns off while the rack is...
No worries. Great question and I'll try to help. Let's start at the beginning. I own a bunch of Pelican cases (they're HQ is here in LA) and a big fan. So when ROAM launched I was skeptical. So I first purchased the 95l for my Bronco and impressed.
Fast forward to RR. In Baja, everything in...
Falken R/T-01 37" x 12.5" on Method +25 rims. The rubbing was at the back of the fender well so the bump stops don't really help. RR just weren't meant to have 37" tires on them.
The report from some knowledgeable observers was that we got about 4' in the air and then gravity took over.
But we were having some rubbing before that especially at super low speed like turning into a gas station or parking lot (since the Live Valve shocks go full soft at that point).
So...
A quick update on the AAL molle panels which were thoroughly tested in Baja (note our missing front fenders and dented quarter panels). They are bombproof!
We originally had 5 x 2 gallon Rotopax attached to them. Pain in the butt as we need daily access in Baja since routes are planned based...
As you can see from damaged front wheel wells, we desperately need them even with Foutz bump stops. I'm not sure the cost is worth the "visual" upgrade but hopefully they provide requisite clearances and then help with rock, sand and mud spray as well.
I'll be sure to post once complete.
Yup! @74weld portals, 2.3" longer Eibach springs up front, @foutzmotorsports bump stops and skid plates.
KNINE fenders on order and hope to have them installed and painted by mid-January.
We've been having way too much fun in Baja and wanted to share how the the @AmericanAdventureLab rack has performed flawlessly. Integrated chase lights, ROAM cases and the new AAL Starlink Mount inside.
Just added AAL Fuel Can holder since range is, by far, the #1 complaint off-roading.
I...
I apologize I missed your note. Love the rack. Absolutely perfect height IMHO and works "perfectly". Still shocked at just how well it accommodated the ROAM cases and Maxtrax. Plus, the bonus of chase lights and ditch lights.
FYI, Eibach just released 500 pound rear spring and will shortly...
