I thought mine was doing this too, it seems that on Android at least, you need to be in the Android auto screen to get the pop-up to read the text messages aloud. So if you are say in the Radio (where I normally keep mine), I hear the notification sound but have no prompt to have them read aloud.

There is a bracket that uses the existing holes for the rear and mid bed tie down points. That contains the latch. There is a second bracket that mounts on the sides of the tailgate opening. All use existing holes in the bed.
