Could it be they are incandescent bulbs that are one filament one function type? You would need a led that has the ability to be a 'park' and 'signal' or even a incandescent that has two filaments for both functions, i want to do this also so I'm researching bulb options.

HMM, I just looked at my my window sticker and it doesn't individually list 'tailgate lock' but i have a working lock with remote, must be part of the 301A package, do you have that package?

I believe that may be only available on the Lariat trim with the larger dash display, i have a XLT and i'm not seeing it either, to be fair i haven't messed around to much with the dash settings just a quick overview, check YT for video walkthroughs.
