Thanks for the question. The vibration I felt was very slight, so the source was not obvious. I started by looking at all of the areas where the engine interacts with the body and frame. I was able to rule out the exhaust system (a common source of engine vibration), so looked for anything...
Another Ranger owner reached to me with the same concern. I put together the images below with some notes on what I did:
In addition to the airbox, I found a coolant pipe was laying next to the airbox when cold. I loosely secured it with a ziptie. This keeps it away from the airbox. but...
John...you should be able to use a smoke machine (like this one HERE) to detect leaks. I've used one to find vacuum leaks and evaporative canister leaks.
I have a similar product, Roar Pedal. You can adjust the throttle sensitivity using their app. Roar Pedal has 5 modes (Eco, Normal, Sport, Sport+ and Race), then 9 levels of adjustment within each mode. I run in Sport mode, setting 3. It removes the initial throttle lag found in the factory...
To help you feel even better about getting the bedliner, keep in mind it will likely prevent you from having to pay for "excessive wear and tear" at lease turn in. Typically, lessors are more concerned with modifications like lifts, exhaust and performance tunes.
I recently bought the Griot's Garage Wheel Wash Mitt. It is my new favorite tool for cleaning wheels. It makes wheel cleaning fast, easy and effective.
That is frustrating and puzzling. This seems like easy money for the dealership/technician.
I wonder if you bought the tuner through the dealership parts department if that would make a difference? If nothing else, contact the parts manager to see.
Thank you. With the left over sound deadning material, I am thinking of lining the back side of the hood. The current factory hood blanket will cover it, so it will be hidden from view. Will it help reduce the injector noise? Who knows. Will the hood feel solid as a rock? Very likely!
I'm curious about this as well, so I'm leaving this comment to bump your topic to the top.
Personally, I like going to the dealer (I'm retired). Better snacks than at home. ?
I felt the same in my 2.3 XLT. It was very slight and I thought it might be driveline angle related. My dealer spent some time with it, compared it to others on their lot and deemed it normal. In fact, they claimed it was better than others they tested.
If it bothers you, have the dealer check...
Where did you source the paint? I had a similar issue (I thought) with a Subaru Autumn Green touchup bought through AutomotiveTouchup.com. As it turns out, you really had to mix the paint well before using. I know the bottles are small, but use a screw (head side down) to thoroughly stir it...
Same for me. Plus, only one of the metal clips on the trim panel around the door handle fell into the door. Luckily, it was as I took it off, so I was able to retrive it and keep it handy for reinstallation.
I don't want to hijack this thread, but I did write an article on my Ranger Sound...
I did the same about a month ago. Road noise is reduced, but the greater impact was from the sound when closing the doors. That 4"x6" patch Ford puts on the door doesn't quite cut it. Adding the sound deadening gives a more solid thunk to door closings.
I retired from GM 8 years ago. Since then, I bought three MINIS and a Subaru. I tried a GM product again with this 2023 Camaro. That's still in the garage, and the Ranger is my latest daily driver (and first Ford!).
I do not disagree. This goes beyond Ford. I do feel the root of the issue is transmission calibration. Between the skip shift from 1st to 3rd, slow downshifts and a torque converter clutch that is slow to unlock all contribute to the conditions we are feeling.
The throttle controllers on the...
In fairness to Ford, I also have a 2.0L turbo Camaro that had poor initial throttle response. I added the Roar Pedal to it, which removed the lag. I don't go crazy on the throttle setting, favoring a mid-level approach. That's my "Goldilocks" setting. Just right.
Because of the success I had...
I installed a Roar Pedal (similar to Pedal Commander and the Banks version). I have it set to Sport 3, which is one level up from normal. Throttle sensitivity improved enough to allow for faster downshift (and out of converter lockup) with less throttle. Roar Pedal is about $170.
