+1 on Dr. Color Chip. I've used it too with great success. You just have to be patient and follow the instructions. A paint/body shop will open your wallet for you for this repair. It does look a little dented, so a paintless dent repair first will aid in success.

I don't think I've ever owned a truck where one of the cables wasn't a little loose. Especially gas/spring assisted as the full weight isn't there to pull them both tight.

That's odd. If you haven't already. I would turn adaptive back on, turn off the the gap set (if it's a toggle) and see if that works. Alternatively, turning the cruise control to normal and then off. Not in my truck, just going off of memory.
