Added some bling to the Lariat chrome package. Installed running board filler with stainless steel from Ford using points and I think it really helps the chrome on the running boards pop. Also trying to keep the boards clean in the Colorado winter and summer light 4x4 on fishing trips.

Put a chrome bug shield to protect the front end, after I had PPF installed on whole front end…bling too!

Used some painters tape to keep the clips in place when re-installing the boards…easy install.

See before and after pics.

do you find that the running boards are very much in the way, I have had 3 rangers all with running boards and do find that they are in the way of getting your leg close enough to the side of the truck to allow you to reach your right leg into the truck to step inside, I also find that the height of the stock running board in relationship to the cab is much too high, if you do step my left foot onto the running board to get into the truck I am towering over the door opening preventing me from getting in. by the way I am 5'9" I guess average height. not to mention that if the running board is dirty or covered with slush or salt your pants leg gets dirty trying to get close enough to the cab to stretch your right leg inside. I love the look but just can't find the best way to use the running board. do you have a solution?

Step onto the running board with your right leg first, closer to the front end of the board. Right hand on the steering wheel to help pull you up. Pivot CWW 90 degrees & left foot on the board. St down over the bolster & pivot CW into the truck.

Works for me with my bad knees.

Hi Mike,

I think you have nailed the love hate relationship to having running boards. My truck came with the running boards and yes, I want them even though I rarely use them. My use is for the wife unit, elderly parents and children to step in. Solution??? Maybe some of the power ones. ???? I haven’t looked.

It is my belief that they help keep the side of the vehicle a bit cleaner. I added the stainless-steel filler to also help keep the boards cleaner besides bling factor, but since the boards are horizontal, they can be a bit dirtier. Due to our dry climate, the truck stays very clean. Mostly dusty.

However, and a big one in the "Front Range" including the Denver area, it that your comment on snow/slush/salt is a bit of a misnomer in our geographic area. Denver is often described as ā€˜high alpine desertā€; hence very little snow/moisture. Mountains, different story.

Bit of geography/weather if interested and why the truck stays very clean.

Half of Colorado is in the mountains and the other half plains. Denver has been known historically as the Queen City of the Plains and the Queen City of the West, because of its important role in the agricultural industry of the High Plains region in eastern Colorado and along the foothills of the Colorado Front Range.

The biggest surprise for visitors to Denver is the climate. The arid conditions bring only 8 to 15 inches of annual precipitation and locals wake up to more than 300 days of sunshine a year. That's more annual hours of sun than Miami and San Diego.

When Denver does get pounded by snow it is because the weather pattern changes. We have what is called ā€œupslopeā€. Normally we have westerly winds that cross over the mountains/weather barrier and some ski areas get over 300 + inches of snow per year. 10-12ā€ of snow = 1ā€ of rain. When the winds change and we get moisture from the gulf, the easterly winds hit the mountains and back flips or ā€œcurlsā€ the moisture back over the front range. Every so many years we will get 24ā€ + of snow in a 24–48-hour period…true snow day…but it comes with a heavy lift/shoveling. Melts very quickly though.

We will be 55 degrees today and at our altitude it will seem balmy….and to have a week in high sixties/low seventies in December/January is common. It will however be colder with a chance of snow in a couple of days.

Best of luck in your serach....

Merry New Year!
