I got a 3D printer for Xmas.
Looking to see if there was any print files out there for cool things to add to the truck. Useful, or otherwise.

I haven’t tried printing anything for my Ranger yet. You can look online at websites like cults3d and thingiverse. You might be able to find some stuff there. A lot of times you can find things like vent bezels and storage cubbies.

Be aware that you can’t use normal PLA filament for truck parts, it will not withstand UV exposure, water or high heat inside the cab - it will definitely deform or droop over 120 degrees F. ABS is more suitable, your printer may not be able to handle the high temperature requirements. What printer did you get? Do you know anything about the subject?

Printed a console tray in PETG and hoping it'll fit since still waiting on build.
Also modified the one I found a bit and if it fits will print that one.

they got me a Bambu P1S. I'm new at it. Only been exposed to some at work. I'm not sure if I'll ever make it to designing my own things, as long as everything I think I might enjoy printing is available somewhere. The wife has been giving me a laundry list of trinkets she wants, it prints really well so far.

I made a couple of hood trim pieces recently. I share the design details in an article I wrote, and also placed the files on Thingiverse.com. PLA filament will deform in the sun, so I used HT-PLA. Prior to installation, I painted the pieces flat black.

I also designed tow hook covers that snap on over the factory hooks. Again, paint to any color you like.

As a beginner you should 100% concentrate on making lots of stuff for your family with PLA, I have a fully sealed and insulated P1S and I like it a lot. I do recommend the Bambu filaments, your printer is tuned for them, buy the filament on sale and in bulk direct from Bambu and KEEP THE PLASTIC SPOOLS AND RF ID TAGS. You will need them for the cheaper refills and don’t use other brands if you plan to buy a Bambu AMS to do multicolors.

ABS will work but it warps, shrinks and it creates troublesome fumes. You need HEPA filtration and a way to keep the stink in the enclosure, or else use your printer in an open shed (impractical in Canada)!

There is a very steep learning curve, get a friend or 3D print shop to help you get over the initial hurdles.

I have found that many of the posted 3D files are garbage, even ones that cost $10. Be very suspicious and do learn how to tune your settings to get better results. Otherwise you will be frustrated and that leads to people quitting the hobby.

I designed and printed these hat hooks. I know amazing? 🤩

i printed in a high grade nylon with carbon fiber, Ppa-cf.

That is something that has changed in the last few years, the prevalence of easily accessible engineering filaments and reasonably priced machines that can print them.

Nice Tilley, I have three different ones and won’t wear anything else. Yours looks brand new, is it recent? Mine all used to fit just a little loose (I have a long oval head shape) so I added some strips of 1/6ā€x1ā€ wide self adhesive felt until they no longer wobbled, and they are way better, I no longer have to use the straps unless it is really windy, and even then it is just the front one…

Sorry for the thread highjack. For those unfortunate enough to not know about them,

I made a cover for the range selector knob it’s up on thingiverse. I printed it in black and clear PETG held up for over a year so far in 110+ Arizona heat

TB RR - That looks like a nice one, but a newbie should definitely stay away from $10 stl files until he learns how to make acceptable prints using PLA and the Bambu default 3mf files, which are Plug and Play and more likely to work well without alterations and ā€œfine tuningā€ like brims and supports, It is bad enough having print failures when the file is free. When you pay for a failure it leaves a very bad taste in your mouth. It can be very discouraging to waste your time and lots of filament. It is often wise to make a partial test print using Draft settings and PLA before starting a final print using a different setup with a more expensive material, to make sure there are no design problems. Most problems usually appear in the first layers (adhesion failure, warping, lifting) and you should stick around to watch and be prepared to intervene if it is screwed up. The P1S does not have the smarts to automatically stop the print if it messes up.

I might look into printing shims to fill the void on the bed rail trim pieces. I’m wanting to mount a Yakima Overhaul HD bed rack system.

The whole J-brace debacle is only half the problem with bed with a hollow trim piece on both bed rails. Talk about a shitty design!!! Why that trim piece isn’t a solid bearing surface at least in the 4 corners of the bed to allow mounting points is beyond me.

Crazy to own a truck that you can’t buy a standard bed rail rack system because trim pieces would crush under load. The only compromise is adding a cover and track system with it, adding cost, weight and loosing flexibility of bed use. I’m actually pissed and almost regretting my recent purchase and my ā€˜25 RR doesn’t even have 500 miles on it. I caved on not having a 6’ bed, but thought a bed rack system will cover my needs for carrying paddle boards and kayaks. Problem fixed….Wrong!

Need my hitch for carrying mtn bikes, so hitch options for paddlesport equipment isn’t an option either.

This is what I’m shooting for with my ā€˜25 RR though without the rooftop tent and kayak and paddle boards instead…

Just move straight to their PETG HF filament. Works as well as PLA in your printer, but is much more stable and useful for in-car temp range and outdoor uses. I have the same printer and have spools PLA I'm never going to use.

The J-brace debacle really is totally unacceptable! Ford should install them on every ranger they have sold. I shouldn't have to purchase extra parts to use the bed! It's a pick up! I know if you buy a Ford topper etc they will install them. Great! So the dealership adds that time in to cover the cost! That is still a sore spot for me.
