So, here we go. I have the RR for 3-4 months now and would've liked to share some of my thoughts and issues in hope of hearing owners who experience the same things. Some things probably will be the same on the other Rangers also

- The center screen: Slow as hell especially the AC controls. I also had it freeze one time on the boot logo and the car needed to get to deep sleep before it started working again.

- The dash: Ever so often it goes to the on-board computer at startup instead of "my gauges" which I always have up. Why?? Also sometimes it shows the gear number instead of D, again no idea why.

- The hood: It vibrates quite a lot and lifts noticably on the sides at higher speeds.

- In 4x4 I started to notice a slight vibration in the pedals and floor board. Seems to be a thing with the F150's also. I only drive in 4A when it's wet. Just to be sure, I can change the drivemode on whatever speed I'm driving right? I always try to ease of the throtthle and not above 60mph or so.

- The seat covers from Ford suck big time. I'm waiting for aftermarket ones.

- The gearbox: I hate how it needs to downshift 2 or 3 times when you floor it. It's something I'm getting used to and can anticipate but still.

- The engine: I have the Euro spec with GPF so close to 300hp instead of 400hp on the exact same engine afaik. I can feel the engine being held back, especially in the higher rev range. I have the impressions it keeps "loosening up" but still.

- Fuel consumption: bad.

I mean, it's still a cool pickup truck and all and I do like it, but for €70k I would've liked to have a little less things that bother me

This has been my biggest worry. I can't stand sluggish touch screen controls. Was hoping some software patches would have improved this by now, but maybe the processor is just underpowered.

I do not have these issues. I drove around 3000 km so far (RR EU version). Of course fuel consumption is bad as expected.
The gear numbers should appear if you touch the manual shifters, it could be some sign of communication trouble.

How bad is fuel economy? I'm not super worried about this as a financial problem but more of a range problem. How far can you go on a tank?

I was hoping that too. I suppose updates and patches happen automatically? Entertainment is acutually quite allright but all the climate stuff is terribly slow.

Can't imagin touching the padles by accident, but who knows...
The vibration started around 5000km.
You don't have the hood violently vibrating from 120kph onwards?

16.5-17L / 100km or about 14.5 MPG. I've heard about the unrestricted Raptors doing 20l / 100km.
If I fil it up it starts from 450km but I don't think I get that far, 400km is more realistic but I should reset the odometer after my next fill up to give an accurate answer.

But can't you use the regular controls to control the temp for everything? I hate temp controls on a touch screen

Yeah physical controls for temp, fan, recirc, max, and defrost. But you have to go the menu for everything else including seat warmers

Yes you can, but there's a delay untill it shows on the screen so you still have to watch it to know how much you're adjusting the temp. The heated seats sliders are only in the screen btw

Hi all, Just my 2 cents here - coming form a F150 Raptor it took some days to get used to the Ranger Raptor true - however it proved to be a great trade-off.
The worst was the freezing up of the Sync4a screen - workaround (also works during driving:
Ford Ranger A few of my thoughts/issues with my new Raptor New_Gen_Ranger_Raptor_softreset_Sync4a

A software update is comming apparently - but the soft reset is easy and no hassle.

Fuel consumption: when i drive 130Km/h on the highway its 12.6Liters per 100Km
When I'm Off road and do steep climbs or rock crawling etc. it can go up to 17-20 Liters in 4x4 LO and front and back locked. Buts that's expected in terrain.

Also in what Mode your driving in "Raptor mode" more power and response = more gas :)

Temperature: there is "hardware" to set the temperature for Driver or Passenger

I do not feel sluggishness on the screen controls personally - but that might be the eye of the beholder.

I'm very impressed with the Terrain capabilities - did not expect it to that good - even my "Rubicon friends" have to admit :)

Shifting behaviour is also determined by the mode your in - as well the display of the gears - Try the raptor mode - and also you can set in the menu at what RPM the gearbox should shift up to get optimal result.
It took me approx. 6000 Km of normal and extensive off-road driving to get the hang of the new Ranger Raptor - now its like your favourite nice fitting comfortable sneaker to me :)

The Slight lift with the Eibach Spring Kit - made it perfect for off-road - but again that's my personal experience and do not regret the swap from the F150 Raptor.

Thanks for your reply!

Good to know about the soft reset. I only had it happen once fortunately.

I drive in normal and as much 2H as possible and have a combined consumption of 16.7L, not much highway though.

Yes there is hardware for the climate but the sceen that still has to show the temp lags behind.

I should dig around in the menu a bit more, didn't know I could change the shift points. But still will not make a difference imo when trying to overtake someone right? It keeps the gears as high as possible while cruising for the fuel consumption I assume but that means it needs to downshift at least 2 times when you suddenly floor it. Now I get it to downshift once when still behind someone and the second downshift happens then when I fully press the throttle. I get that it will be better in sport mode eg but fuel consumption will be way worse.

I was thinking about a small lift too. The wheel gap isn't thát big and I have the (probably false) impression last gen RR's where higher of the ground.

You don't have the slight vibration in 4x4 on the road?

Hey Flashe30
First of all cool to see you here :) !
Are you in "raptor Mode" when you observe the Shifts ? - Press the "R" on the steering wheel twice - the shifting behaviour is more sporty for fast overtaking etc.
Best thing is to test all the options and have fun. But yes i agree if your main focus is fuel consumption a less sporty and more "gliding" drive style needs to be introduced with minimum shifting etc. I can see when not on highways and lot of braking- accelerating through villages and Morning traffic etc. it drives up the consumption there is almost no way around that.

When in 4x4 H or even A the steering and feel of the truck becomes a little "rougher" which is to be expected - more moving parts (gears) are in action - and the fuel consumption goes up because of more resistance.

the best is you try out all the goodies focused on your expectation for the current drive your about to go on. Then even the Engine auto Start / Stop might be a good item to save fuel in the morning commute.
See thats the beauty of the Raptor - to my humble opinion - Its a great terrain machine - daily commuter and it can change to a "sports" car in Raptor mode -
After a great off road weekend and all have to hit the highway to drive back home
i have in comfort and speed to keep up with the Fast Italians/Germans on their great highways :)

Thanks for the welcoming :) I drove a Nissan Terrano and Navara daily before the RR so I have some 4x4 experience already but this is my first Ford. I have a couple fast BMW's on the side so maybe I'm just too spoiled 🙈

I'm almost never in Raptor mode. I drive sporty anyway, so I'm afraid the consumption will be a lot worse if I do that in Raptor mode. But you're right that I should explore it a bit more.

I do get that it's normal for the truck to feel rougher in 4x4, but the thing is that I didn't notice the vibration the first 5k...

Do you also have the euro version?

With those cars it's almost sure your spoiled :like: Drove a Terano once myself - had to get out in the rain to lock the front wheels !
Good question !!! I got mine from official Ford dealer in Switzerland - having said that - Switzerland is not part of the EC so to be honest i don't know what version i have is there an identifier to find out ? feels pretty fast in Raptor mode though. i now have approx. 7000Km on it and slowly, as i mentioned, getting the groove. It will grow on you too I'm sure ! especially when its your first Ford - was same for me. I also recommend to do some off road stuff (eassy at first ) and test the modes and setting i find the Track assist absolutely amazing - i almost get a bad conscious when I'm in a group and see how other struggle :)
With the cars you are used to its a dilemma like debating what chocolate is better Belgium or Swiss one ?
Enjoy the Raptor its really a cool car and it performs .

The freeze will always happen. I have a 21 edge and the screen still freezes no matter what update they push out. Luckily the reset works but its annoying. Sync 4 still needs a lot of work

Hi coldconfession13 yeah indeed is was highly annoying - on tracks when the group wanted to move on everyone had to wait 5 minutes (deep sleep) or disconnect the battery - you can imagine the "Jeep Guys" had their laughs - Until i found out about the soft reset as a work around then it takes a couple of seconds to get back where it should be.
I hope very much, as you, Ford will get a grip on this Gremlin so we not have to worry about it anymore.
