Since the new truck has a PLASTIC fuel tank covered by a PLASTIC "rock guard" I'm thinking I should install a gas tank skid plate.

Ford has MB3Z9K014H steel plate for $181 - I can order but is a non-returnable item so it sounds like it will be a hassle to return if it doesn't fit or turns out to be garbage.

Anyone have this skid plate installed? From factory or DIY? Any problems to install? Uses existing brackets? Are brackets strong enough?

Sounds like RIVAL is the only other alternative at about twice the price- worth it?

Thanks for any information you care to share

Yes, there seems to be some discrepancies about it. I see it's available online but shipping seems to run about $100. The local Ford parts guy originally quoted me $101 but said it was a brand new part (like it had not ever been ordered before) and when he went to confirm about it the price was revised up. He swears it is steel as the internet shows but it almost seems too cheap to be heavy steel and 3 pounds sounds about right for plastic. I could imagine Ford asking $181 for a piece of 3 pound plastic.

Hence my posting and hoping someone had actually put hands on one before I order it and get a nasty surprise on a non-returnable piece of sh*t plastic.....

ps. embedded rock- your green Raptor is the color my wife liked and so convinced her we should get one- but the dealer said; "you can't have one!" so we ended up with the 2.7l XLT with no skid plates. Hope you are liking it?

Wonder if your local Ford parts guy would order one of the skid plates to see if it is plastic or steel? Then send it back if it is in fact plastic.

Roughly 500 miles on my RR now and I do like it. It's a better all around vehicle versus the '24 Wrangler I traded for the RR.
I'm planning to make a Utah adventure next year in the Moab and Green River areas next year. This will be the real experience to see I how much I like the Ranger in general and the advantage of the RR.
Have been there three times in the past 18 months. Last time was with an ol' Army buddy who brought his RR. He did well with it on trails rated 3, 4, and 5.

Anyone try this yet? Nice budget option if steel. But I can see them charging that much for plastic...
