Totally appreciate that. Yes although I'm not expert on warranty or Ford warranty I haven't been really too concerned so far with regards to modifications causing warranty issues. The whole assembly is expensive as above, but I could probably remove the whole assembly potentially as it's not really an essential component...

Well whatever structural support and filtering the fins might do would seem to be minimal, of course any detriment to flow would be as minimal or less as well. I may think about cleanly removing the fins and installing a coated wire screen in the rectangle surround/frame
Most fairly open screens are 20-50% blockage.
