Lariat and Raptor are...not sure about XL or XLT.
Just found this in the owners manual "Heated Exterior Mirrors (If Equipped)". But theres nothing that indicates how to operate/activate them on page 112.

EDIT: Did more digging and found this "Note: The heated rear window and heated mirrors also turn on when you select maximum defrost. " On Page 140.

How to Turn Your Heated Mirrors On
Your rear defrost button is probably one that you know well by now. It's an essential part of your morning during the winter. The great news is that your Ford vehicle's heated mirrors activate automatically when you turn on your rear defrost. Once you press that button, your mirrors will begin defrosting along with your rear defrost.

Also, when you select maximum defrost button, it automatically activates the heater mirrors, as you mentioned.
