I was very interested in the thread several months ago about adding a front camera to an XLT that showed up on the main screen. One of our Ranger crew out of Brazil, Renato23 reported that a company called FAAFTECH had a plug and play solution. I was interested and reached out to them, they said it wasn’t developed for the NA market. I offered to be th Guinea pig and advised I was doing it at my own risk. They said no.
Renato23 had mentioned that he would help someone get one and ship it. Literally hundreds of private chat, back and forth communication on the threads, WHATTSAPP texts and a couple actual phone calls from Brazil (before I got it and during the installation) and I had my interface and camera.
So, I removed all of the parts necessary to disconnect the infotainment screen (both sides of the top dash, the console and all the surrounding trim) disconnected the screen and put in the interface which fit perfectly. Put the infotainment screen back in and started the truck and my center screen was dark. Tried a soft reset and nothing. Took out the interface and hooked it back up and everything worked. (I was pleasantly surprised that all of the info programmed in was still there after the battery was disconnected overnight).
Today, I am going to try FAAFTECH customer service and see if they have any suggestions. Otherwise, I am going to start putting it all back together and chalk it up to an “at least I tried “ experience.
I put the (?) in the title because it was not a complete failure, I gained a friend in Brazil. I am extremely grateful to Renato23 for all his time, patience and getting me the parts to experiment with.
