Has anyone installed any type of garage door Homelink into their XLT? When I had my Maverick I installed a Kia rear view mirror that had compass and Homelink built into it and wired power to it from the overhead console by the dome lamps. I'm looking to do something like this with my Ranger. I would even consider a visor mounted homelink. Just trying to see what other people have done here.

I went the other way and got my garage door to work with carplay;

https://gotailwind.com/

It works fairly well; better for whatever reason when i'm coming home then when i leave (i think it might be due to the handoff from WIFI to carplay wifi at a spot where i dont have great LTE/5G coverage...)

Do you have to use your phone to operate it?

I ordered a Homelink mirror from Bobs mirrors. This unit was the 5 pin direct plug and play. I went this route due to the 3 prong mount to bracket on windshield. Wish I could have used a different Homelink mirror that was much cheaper but I’m happy with direction I went. Thought about changing visors out cost was rediculous for Lariat sun visors.

Yes. I installed this one. I changed the black faceplate for the gray one to make it a little easier to see. I used an add-a-fuse to the fuse panel right behind it. The kit comes with a template and gaskets for different material thicknesses.

Have you tried buying the factor visor with the built-in homelink? It's usually plug and play. On my Fusion there's a cutout in the plastic under the fabric. I opened up the fabric, punched out the cutout, installed the module and just wired the power and ground to the stock wires. The easier way is most likely by a stock visor with the homelink and just swap it over.
