HitchMount Reverse Light

Looking to install diode dynamics hitch mount reverse light C1 on 2026 RR. Besides illuminating automatically in reverse, I also want to have it wired to aux switch for manual control. Does anyone have this setup? Looking for what I need to do as all of my searches have turned up conflicting information.

I believe it can be done with a DPDT relay.

problem I had with the DD hitch light is there is no rear access on the hitch to run the wire from the back of the light to under the bumper. I would've had to drill a hole in the hitch to run the wire. I would check to see if yours is the same. My hitch is a Ford OEM hitch on my 25 Ranger XLT (non-Raptor). FYI

Raptor hitch has a small hole in back wall. I believe I will need to either de-pin the connector to feed wires through or file down the connector to fit through the hole.

I’m considering using a dual diode setup instead of a relay unless someone has a better idea!

It is a SPDT relay. Got to verify but if you wire the backup circuit to control the relay pin 86, 85 to ground. Connect the controlled light to pin 30. And constant power to 87. Finally connect the aux switch to 87a. Wired like this the aux switch will send power to the light when the backup circuit is off and will also illuminate the light when the the factory lights trigger it. Hooking it up thos way is actually wiring g the controlled circuit "backwards" but in theory it will work.

From what DD told me, the 7pin system won't work because the Rangers Trailer module thinks there is a wire fault, and you will get an error on the dash.

My factory hitch has no hole, and I would have to drill it. Would really like to figure out how to make it work!

I installed the C1 hitch light and it worked without any faults. Thankfully I just stuck with the intended plug and play configuration before altering any wiring. Going to look for a different solution all together as the brightness was a bit of a disappointment. It’s definitely an improvement over stock, but it feels more like an average reverse light. I’m sure there are better options out there.
