I'm not really a fan of running boards on midsize trucks, as I am 6'4" tall. I don't need them for entry and find that I smack my calf on exit. That's especially anooying during a Michigan winter when the running board is full of road slop. I was going to take them off, but my 5'1" wife said she needs them.
I saw another post discussing this problem, so decided to start this one for my solution. I just bought and installed a set of N-Fab Black EpYx hoop steps from @RealTruck. What I like about these steps is that they provide the boost my wife needs, but also allow me to exit the truck without stepping over a running board. It seems silly, but these make a world of difference.
Here are some before and after pics.
