How to combat a dishonest dealer???

Deleted member 6764

Ford doesn't want to control the End To End business from design through final sales and service. Look at all the problems they are having without that part, what makes you think adding direct sales complexity would make ANY of it any better? In the bigger picture, we need franchised dealership to act as the customer facing 1st contact point for recall & service work, easiest route for trade ins and more. They also employ 10s of Thousands of Americans- why do you want to punish them ?
I also disagree, Ford is clearly frustrated by dealers. And many OEMs have been for many years now. It has nothing to do with "punish", it is an overly complicated and rigged system from lobbying and times have changed. I think most reasonable people are just asking for the option to buy directly, in every state, not that dealerships are made illegal and abolished. But the reasons for not allowing direct sales are antiquated at this point. Even with direct sales you still need OEM affiliated service centers. OEMs make more money on finance, warranty and service plans, and other services than the sale of the vehicle.

I have dealt with many dealerships for many different brands and the best experience I have had has been tolerable. The average experience is disappointing. No matter the brand of vehicle I have always known more than the salesperson, GM or anyone involved about the vehicle, options, features, etc. The only time I am impressed is the few times I've dealt with a master technician or a few stellar service department individuals. I have seen accounts on various forums of good dealerships, sales staff, finance, etc., but those are few and far between. There is clearly a problem with the system.

some of these comments makes clear a few people are clueless as to how dealer Franchise agreements (contracts) work, and the legally binding obligations and responsibilities between the 2 parties. Unsupported speculation on what "Ford" wants or thinks and conspiracy theories on rigged systems and lobbying aren't founded in reality. Do a little research and expand your understanding of the relationship between Parent companies and Franchisees and it might open your eyes to the roles each play in the business of Manufacturing and selling vehicles in the US.

My observations aren't unfounded, I was trying to make statements related to normal every day interaction with dealerships. However, my career is deeply in the automotive industry from many facets. So it is from that inside perspective and personal experience.
