So, in my search for new rims, it seems I've hit a road block in figuring out offset. I see one pic that looks awesome in one offset then another pic same offset (different manufacturer) but it has more/less poke.
My brain is shot. Seems most go with +35. The one I'm currently looking at is +25. However, then there is another that is 0. I guess what I'm getting at, is offset different between manufacturers? If that's the case, how in the world do you decide?

Just a few examples I'm looking at. I get that some are very different.

17x8.5 25mm - Black Rhino
18x9 20mm - Fuel
18x9 0mm - Black Rhino

Don’t forget that the wheel width also factors into poke, so a wider wheel will have more poke than a narrower wheel with the same offset. I narrowed it down to 8.5 inch wide wheels with +35 offset or 8 inch wide wheels with +25 offset.

play around with an offset comparison tool (there are a bunch online) to give you a better sense of how all the parameters work in terms of poke and suspension clearance.

Offset measurements should be same between brands. Width is a factor as someone else said when it comes to poke, and tire width as well.

I have RTR 18x9 +30 with a 12.5 wide tire and it pokes modestly beyond the wheel arch molding. A 0 offset will poke another 1.2" more. 20mm would be roughly 1/2" more.

18x9 +30 with 12.5 wide tire:

For the 17x8.5s it is a narrower wheel so a +25mm is going to be pretty flush if you use OE tire size 285/70R17. Wider tire means a bit of poke. (I ran the stock wheels that are +55 with a 30mm spacer so effective offset was +25mm).

17x8.5 effective +25 with 285 wide:
