One thing I seriously dislike about new vehicles...

is the rear seat headrests that block the outer 1/3 of each side of the rear window.

In the past I rarely carried rear seat passengers but my Grandson has started traveling with us occasionally and he needs a headrest for safety if we get rear-ended. So I reinstalled one headrest for him. And I couldn't see out of that side through the back window again. Putting the headrest in and out constantly is a pain.

In a flash of inspiration, I tried the rear headrest out of my 2023 Bronco Black Diamond 4-door. Those fold down out of the way so they are still installed in that vehicle.

It fit! And it folds down so you barely see it. The upholstery doesn't match but it's folded down 95% of the time so I don't care.

So if there's anyone else like me who likes being able to see out of the rear window but still have headrests if needed, this is the answer.

I ordered the following part numbers so I have a set for the Ranger as well as the Bronco:

M2DZ-78611A08-BA - Passenger Side
M2DZ-78611A08-BC - Drivers Side

Oh man, that was the first thing I did when I drove home my Ranger, removed those damned head rests. Thanks for the ideas!

Initially I removed the headrests but I noticed it increased my field of vision to include what the side mirrors could cover. Then after 4 iced coffees the paranoia set in, “if I can see them, they can see me!”, so I put them back on as horse blinders.

The 2015-2017 F150 (maybe even later models) have folding rear head rests that fit as well. You can get them in cloth or leather. I just put black cloth headrests in my 2025 XLT and love them. Check eBay.
