Looking to replace my aging Tacoma with a 2024 Ranger XL 4x4. I usually keep vehicles for many years so reliability is a big concern for me. Been doing a bit of research and the 2.3 ecoboost appears to be a solid engine but the 10 spd auto seems to be troublesome even at relatively low mileage. Are these transmissions still having issues or are there any other issues of concern? I don't do any heavy towing or off-roading. I just need an economical and reliable truck to lug me and my stuff around. Just looking for feedback from current owners.

Originally, I ordered a 2019 Lariat. The problems I've experienced with it are:
1. A/C blows cold on drivers' side, but hot on Passenger side, Ford said there was an air flow diverter assy, that had failed. Cost to replace was $3,200 (I declined)
2. Sirius (mode) resets to AM radio after each lock/unlock of the vehicle.
3. Display intermittently shows blank screen. lock/unlock resets it.

My 2022 Ranger has been great except the driveline vibration shudder it came from factory with. Dealer could not fix and said it was normal. I fixed it myself and no other issues with it.

I've been trying to look into the transmission a lot myself. Most of the complaint issues I've seen, have to do with how it shifts and behaves, not so much actual transmission failure.

Following those lines, there seems to be a lot of mysticism about transmission "learning". But I found this guy, who details two specific points in this video:

First, when winter-cold, the truck has to be on for 30-40 seconds to bring pressure up in the trans before you put it in gear. Annoying, but is what it is?

Second, later in that video he details the specific transmission calibration procedure. Which also seems annoying but if that's what does the trick, I'll find a way to do it.

Anecdotally, I've seen a few other references to just turning OFF the adaptive nature of the transmission entirely (via FORScan?) I haven't seen a procedure for that yet, just a number of people saying it worked remarkably better after they did this. I don't know if the adaption is something that just squeaks Ford out a couple hundredths of a mile per gallon for CAFE or something? Total speculation on my part. But, I plan to mess around first with the reset and training, and then second with the system shutdown if it's annoying me.

It is worth noting the 2024 ranger uses the 10r60, and not the old 10r80. That said the bronco also has the 10r60, and other than initial teething issues it seems to be sorted.

Hello ,I've done research on the 2024 ford ranger, and I ended up buying a brand new 2024 XL 2.3 ecoboost 3 months ago , haven't found any problems with the 2.3 they redesigned the cam phasers, redesign the head gasket problems and as far as the 10 speed transmission, ford put in the 10R60 transmission in the 2024 models , the 10R80 transmission were the main problem in the past ,

Bought a RAV4 hybrid and dusted off my utility trailer. Fuel economy is a big concern for me as I do a lot of driving and gas is floating around $7 a us gallon so I passed on pickups all together. Also transport an 11' snowmobile long distances so a 6' box would be minimum length for me.
