J brace required when fitting a canopy,
What does it actually do?
The six attachment points on the tray top rails ,
Do they have a load rating ?

A J-Brace is a bracket, purpose designed to add additional strengthening to an item. In this case it is the vehicle tub of the Ford Ranger. This brace acts as a reinforcement for the load box and is mounted close to the wheel arches of the vehicle.

They don't alter the load rating of the vehicle.

Hi Jezzza,

Thanks for your reply ,

My questions stems from adding a roller shutter then adding to that "ladder racks" which can also accommodate a roof top tent .

Previously a manufacturer quoted using their shutter and ladder racks you could get a Dynamic load of 140kg.

Now the shutter for next gen is derated to 90kg.

A second manufacturer has stated that their roller shutter has a dynamic load rating of 75kg or 150kg with tub bracing .

From what i understand its not a Jbrace that is the tub bracing but their own brace which is still in testing .

From what after market suppliers are also suggesting that the side walls of the tub with the 3 mounting points each side are limited to 45kg which you would think its not the jbrace either but requires further bracing to carry the 150kg mark.
