Rectangular covers on top bed rail?

So the top of my bed side tops have rectangular covers with a picture of a bolt what is this for

For decades these snap in covers were hiding stake pockets.
The Rangers do not have stake pockets. Pry off a cover and look, won't hurt a thing. There are attachment points hidden there. For like, stuff you might install...
