I had some questions about how I mounted my traction boards inside the smartcap. Due to the desire for flexibility, I got some sea sucker traction board mounts. Then I mounted them to the ceiling of the smartcap.
They hold surprisingly well. Every week or so I give the suction cup buttons a push to be safe and they have held up to hundreds of miles of rough dirt, and thousands of miles of rough northern pavement.
I did learn the bungee cord trick the hard way. Because the mount is upside down the mount will loosen over time (almost dropped them during a hard day of dirt). I routed the bungee cord over the bolts about 6000 miles ago and they haven’t budged again. Furthermore, mounting the boards is harder since you’re fighting gravity, so I place the boards, pull the bungee over them, then I don’t have to hold them up as I screw the bolts in. Super easy and I like that none of my gear is on the outside of my truck.
