It’s the metallic noise/rumbling you hear when I take my foot off the gas.

No BOV, no engine mods.

I thought for the life of me it was the DS turbo dying on me. According the the dealership, turbos and wastegates were
tested and are fine but they haven’t been able to find the root cause yet.

Has anyone experienced this before?

Couldn’t upload directly, here’s a link to the video:
That sounds a lot like when my WRX had a loose heat shield on one of the cats.

Update:

Apparently the metal grinding noise was coming from the transmission. They replaced the full assembly under warranty (at 52.5k km/32k mi) and the noise it gone.

Not very mechanically inclined, but there was metal-on-metal scoring, worn out bushings, and too much play in the gears.

i am glad you are good to go now though. that could have been terribly expensive had it not been covered under warranty

Glad you found the problem and was able to get it fixed, but that seems significant and it doesn’t give me an easy feeling, particularly about modding the truck where it may put more stress on the tranny (e.g, procal, bigger tires, etc).

On a lighter note, the title of this thread made me laugh, reminded me of this “song” back in the 80s (no offense intended by the rest of this album, listen at your discretion). Cheers

Having the same issue with mine. Car is at dealership for thorough diagnostic. I'm hoping for a complete gearbox replacement as I'm sure that's the issue.
Did you notice any change in gear changes after gearbox replacement?

Maybe take it to another dealer? Sometimes having another tech on it helps

Did you notice anything leading up to this? Hard shifts, slips, etc. I had some gnarly hard shifts when I first got the truck that have subdued over time, but my 5-6 upshift in Sport mode is utter garbage. Harsh and stuttering. My 4-5 upshift is often feeling like it's slipping or something.

I'm constantly told that it's just what these transmissions do, but I've had more cars than years on this rock. Something ain't right...

It's been definitely hard shifting on sport mode in hard accelerations since the beginning (~6kmiles).
Scrapping/grinding noise came much later

Wowsers! Glad you posted this and got your ride fixed! My mechanical gene's in looking at the scoring on the torque converter drive and the bushing screams lack of lubrication. I understand that at some point the valve bodies went under a design change for the 10R60 but when is unknown. As lubrication problems can stem from the valve body, the numerous seals, up through all the transmission passages, solenoids, the pump itself or low fluid levels. Time to Ranger on! :like:
