I think everyone is getting thrown off by the Tread XL.. if you look at the more recent photos, the sidekick mount appears to be a way to attach 1” ball mounts, plus some specialized mounts (like the tread one).

I think this will be great to mount things like iPads, passenger cell phones, comms mic, spotter handheld radios, etc. really just about anything.

Shame iPads don’t do CarPlay, a passenger could run ONX and CarPlay it to the screen.
Agreed. When the product page launches, it'll be super clear. Then, everyone can pick and choose their own mounts based on their needs. It worked flawlessly for me running Gaia over the weekend on an iPad Mini.

Yes, I agree about CarPlay. It would be great if it did work for that.

That’s how I would run my iPad as well. With my vhF/uhf radio face over head even though must of the rides I get on use GMRS.

You can use a radio like the Icom 5100 (display mounted below screen) to work with GMRS, VHF, and UHF. That's what we run in all of our builds. the "MARS Mod" is what enables full spectrum - https://www.gigaparts.com/icom-id-5100a-deluxe-bundle.html

We have a bracket that could be used to mount the comms radio head unit overhead as well - https://americanadventurelab.com/product/ford-ranger-ovrhd-mount/

Looks great, what do those screws at the back go into, is there a washer or something behind them as that back seems to be just plastic?

Hey everyone – Brit here from American Adventure Lab. I wanted to give Ranger6G a first look at a new product we’re launching next week, because this group has been a huge source of insight and inspiration for our Ranger gear.

We just filed the patent on a new product we’re calling SAM – the Sidekick Accessory Mount.

What is it?
It’s a clean, low-profile accessory mounting solution that installs in the dash compartment above the glove box on 2024+ U.S. Rangers. SAM supports up to four RAM balls, making it easy to mount phones, tablets, comms mics, GPS units, and more — all while keeping your glove box and upper compartment fully accessible. Keeping the dash clear and windshield in full view was paramount for this product. I hate distractions while doing some "sporty" driving. 🤣

Key features:
  • Installs using factory dash holes – no drilling required
  • Made from 3/16" 5052 aluminum – Made in the USA
  • Holds up to 4 RAM-style mounting points
  • Designed with the co-driver in mind — perfect for trail navigation gear
  • We’re also building a full ecosystem of bolt-on accessories for the SAM platform
Special pricing for Ranger6G members:
Use code SAM6G at checkout for 10% off when it launches next week.

Photos below show the SAM installed with a Garmin Tread XL mount and a RAM ball + phone arm setup.
We'll drop the full product link here as soon as it goes live.

Let us know what other devices or accessories you’d want to mount to SAM — we’re always open to new ideas and real-world use cases.

Thanks again to this community for the continued support

They go into factory holes. We'll provide the mounting hardware with the bracket. Thanks!
