Hey all,

First post here - please be gentle for any faux pas.

2025 Ranger Raptor V6
(retired American living in the Philippines - truck purchased here)

I get a “Check 4x4” and “Service Vehicle Soon” (and wrench icon) warning intermittently. If the engine/tranny is cold, there is no warning. If driven a few miles and fully warned up, it will come on when I stop and let the engine idle for a short time. It then enters safe mode, cancels all drive settings, and has little engine power and no turbo boost - total dog.

If I shut off the engine and let it cool for a time, the warning will be gone (usually) when restarted, but will come on again if not driven within a minute or so. The only drive settings I use are comfort steering and either sport or Baja exhaust. I “exercise” the 4wd modes every couple of weeks on a dirt/rock road. No issues shifting between 2H, 4H, 4A, and 4L.

I pushed all the fuses in the engine fuse box - some were not fully seated - but this did nothing. I took it to the dealer, they cleared error codes (U0401, U0403, U0447, and a couple more I don’t have a clear pic of), assuring me this would “fix it” - it did not. I live four hours from the dealership, and they want me to just come in again to clear codes, which doesn’t address the cause. I don’t have a lot of confidence in the techs here.

I have seen online I need to check wiring harnesses for the tranny and ABS, but am too old and fat to crawl under the truck to accomplish this task. Any other suggestions for this, are there any other options? FORScan?

Thanks in advance.

I just had mine come on yesterday. 24 Raptor.
Came on after using 4A for the first time the day before.
It was also after plugging in my Procal tool screen to mess around with what readings I could display on it. Not sure if that was related.
Procal tool was saying the code is P160A
Control Module Vehicle Options Reconfiguration Error.
Cleared it with the Procal tool but the tranny has been shifting roughly sometimes.

Those 3 codes are invalid data codes. Some wires loose or a ground is loose and causing an invalid voltage reading being sent to the pcm/abs module or whatever can bus that system is on.
check wires are secure and plugged in for the abs system if you feel up to it.
you need new techs to look over the vehicle if you don’t want to. I think something small is loose like a ground or a plug at the transfer case.

if your fuse box was a little loose I assume is a wire connection not seated properly. I don't have the raptor but I can say I don't turn key and start driving. I always let this thing warm up properly because it eliminates the cold clunky shifts this thing has -and all of them have. idk I think a clunky shift once a day for 4 years will add up.

Thanks for the reply.

I told the techs that I had seen online that loose/broken sensor/module connections could be the issue., but I doubt they checked - they just mostly stared at me with blank looks on their faces. They cleared the codes and then went on a 40 mile "test drive" - what the...

Going back again next week. I'm going to have to be a little more "forceful" this time - and no more long test drives...

Thanks for the reply.

I’ve actually seen that video while searching - the dealer techs are now checking harnesses/wiring, and are sending simulated data to the TCM. They’ve found corrupted data from the transfer case sensor and throttle body, so they are looking to replace those. Feels like they’re shotgunning a little, but it’s their dime I guess, and I’m in no rush. I suggested they contact Ford USA for guidance - hope they do.

Follow-up if anyone is interested:

After leaving the truck with the service department for six weeks (crazy), I picked it up about a month ago with a new power control module installed. I no longer have the warnings for the 4wd system, and I’ve also noticed the throttle is working better - it seemed to feel funny at times. For example, I’d sometimes let off of the throttle and it felt as though the engine would speed up. Plus, it seemed to shift in a peculiar way, unexpectedly at times. I chalked this up to break-in and computer modules “learning”. One of the error codes corresponded with corrupted throttle data (also in other data streams). A welcome side effect is my mileage went from 9mpg to 17ish, which makes sense.

I didn’t want to post anything until I was fairly certain it was fixed as I had very little confidence in the dealership’s service personnel. I sent them donuts for Christmas out of guilt. Anyway, albeit slowly, they seemed to have gotten the job done - knock on wood.

Thanks for reading!

Holy shit, man, you were getting 9 MPG??

I'm glad your gremlins are sorted. That kind of stuff can drive one crazy.

I live on a small island with few roads able to go more than 35mph - so I tend to get on the gas whenever I have a chance to get RPMs up. When I saw 9mpg, I was surprised, but read that many people were disappointed in the RR mileage. I assumed that was the issue (and I’m a boost junky). I reset the mpg computer after I got the truck back and have driven for a month. It now reads 17mpg. Also, when I was having the check 4x4 issues, it would go into limp mode, shutting off turbo boost and had very little throttle response. Zero to sixty was probably 25 seconds plus at that time.
