I’ve put hood struts on pretty much every vehicle I’ve owned, so this was one was obviously going to make its way on the truck too. For around $100, it’s just one of those upgrades that feels like a no-brainer.

I went with the Redline Tuning hood strut kit for the 2024 Ranger

If you watch my video and check the product page you’ll get the full rundown, but here’s what stood out to me:

  • Really straightforward install, took maybe 20 minutes (if that)
  • Made in America
  • Struts are tuned for the truck, so no excessive stress on the aluminum hood
  • 4–5 year warranty (depending on the version you get)
  • Hood opens about 4.5" higher than the stock prop rod
No more dealing with the prop rod and it just feels cleaner and more modern. Small mod, but makes a big impact.

It is a no brainer that they SHOULD have included it, my F150 came with them. But we know Ford wants to make money; even if people were rejecting trucks because they didn’t have these then dealers would just work it into the deal. So no incentive there. So then there’s liability… if it’s cheaper to deal with lawsuits from prop rods failing than to recall or update production, then there’s no incentive to do it there either. So, I recently ordered mine also, a very worthwhile upgrade.

A word of caution to anyone reading this and considering purchase. I tried the cheap Amazon route and it didn’t work. YMMV but the install has too small a margin for error to allow cheap imitations with larger production variance.

Day 1 item with Stubby antenna and wheels lock...

And my wife has no excuse to not put windhsiel washer herself (OK maybe but it's way easier if she has to)
Stubby antenna was also one of my first mods, mostly just so I could get in the garage lol

I would love to get these, except for the fact…

I have the slam my hood down to get it to latch!

(And yes, I’ve tried adjusting the bracket)

I have the same issue, about 3/4 way down there’s no resistance and you can slam it as normal - this is what I do
