Hey everyone,

We just finished filming a detailed walkthrough of the Narwhal carbon-fiber truck topper, with the Ranger platform as one of our primary design targets.
We have lowered our base price to $6,985 and are now offering two core models.
The Narwhal Carbon - full carbon fiber panels with no glass
The Narwhal Recon - Front and rear glass with the ability to add glass to the side panels or keep full carbon side panels.

Narwhal Toppers will be entering production in June! Orders will open next week, and we are including a free turret hatch for those who reserve now.

This topper was built around a few core goals that we felt were missing in the current market:

• Extremely low weight Carbon Fiber Construction- compared to steel, aluminum, and fiberglass caps
• High structural strength using carbon fiber construction
• Modular panels (rear removable)
• Large roof hatch for standing access, pass through, hunting, or photography
• Load-bearing roof for serious loads, racks, RTTs, etc.

The main purpose was to create something that gives Ranger owners the capability of heavier expedition caps with additional features without the weight penalty that significantly impacts suspension performance and driving dynamics.

We go through all the details in the video here:

We’re still refining a few mechanical aspects before full production, which is scheduled for June! So feedback from Ranger owners is actually extremely useful.

Curious what this group thinks — especially around:
  • What kind of locks do you guys want to see?
  • Roof load expectations
  • Features you'd want in a modular cap
Would love to hear your thoughts.

That is slick! What is the weight without the side windows/doors?
Thank you! The lightest version (Narwhal Carbon) with full-carbon everything is right at 100 lbs. Each slider window adds about 9 lbs per side.

Needs to have the ability to support a hard shell RTT plus American adult male. So ~450 lbs static/250 lbs dynamic load.
We have you covered! The topper can support 600 lbs dynamic and over 1100 lbs static.

This is absolutely the correct way and material to build a topper and I might snag one of these in a year or two, but right now im doing engine mods + lift

-turbos
-downpipes
-CAI
-intercooler
-fox 3.2 live lift

One thing that might be a nice addition would be PPF film on it, hardly any weight at all but protects that precious carbon fiber from trail rash

Appreciate the support!

Please show us a post-install review of the Fox 3.2s. We are dying to see how these perform on the RR. That sounds like a fun build. How much power do you expect to make after the power mods?

We have also been talking to a few different suppliers about a pre-cut PPF kit for our toppers. We will see what we can do to support that down the line.

Ok, really impressive! Obviously not designed or intended to be a budget item, people who want it will pay >$7k for it, there are plenty of options across the price spectrum. As far as locks, flush mount and black to be unobtrusive. Probably need 2 per door (?) to provide some stability/security? Other suggestion would be light switches at every door rather than one, or auto-on whenever any door is opened. The only other thought watching the video was that as a veterinarian; the thought of dogs sticking their heads out windows of moving vehicles brings back too many memories of eye and head traumas over the years. Ventilation is great but PLEASE no…

I'm sure some will say no way they look completely different but it has a very similar look to the SmartCap Topper. Certainly not a bad thing since I have one and think they look good.

What does that one weigh as it sits in the video because you and your brother are both incredibly weak or that thing weighs a fair bit more than a little over 100 lbs.

Good question. A couple things to keep in mind.

The topper in the video isn’t the base configuration. That unit includes four glass panels (~9 lb each), load bars, lighting, and additional hardware, so it weighs more than the ~100 lb base carbon-fiber shell.

Also, we’re lifting it up and positioning it onto the bed rails, which is very different from simply dead-lifting a compact object. With something that wide, the challenge is balance and alignment, not just raw weight.

For context:
  • Base carbon fiber shell: ~100 lb
  • Glass panels: ~36 lb total
  • Bars, lighting, seals, hardware: additional weight
Even fully configured like the one shown, it’s still significantly lighter than most premium toppers, which typically weigh 250–350 lbs, depending on brand and configuration.

A big reason for that difference is the construction method. Many toppers are built as multi-panel modular assemblies joined with mechanical fasteners, which simplifies manufacturing and shipping but requires thicker materials and more hardware to achieve stiffness.

The Narwhal uses a carbon-fiber monocoque structure, which allows us to maintain strength and load capacity while keeping overall weight dramatically lower than traditional aluminum or multi-panel designs.

Looks like you guys have an excellent product here, and I wish you well. The price isn’t bad considering what the buyers is getting in exchange. That turret hatch would be amazing on a truck with a 6’ bed that you could sleep in the back of. With the Ranger’s short bed, it seems like limited value. TBH, I’d prefer one with out, for a little less money.

Appreciate the thoughtful input, this is exactly the level of detail we think about as well.

Each panel uses dual latching points, which creates a tight, rigid seal across the frame. That’s critical for maintaining structural integrity, eliminating flex, and keeping the system fully weatherproof.

And on configuration, if you don’t run glass, those panels are designed to accept modular mounting solutions (MOLLE and similar systems) so the topper can be set up for more utility-driven use cases.

The rock lights could be set up to have multiple switches but this is something that would have to be implemented on the customer side as our harness will provide one switch that can be mounted wherever you want.
