So I got a good deal on a 12" cluster from a wrecked Lariat and swapped it in for the 8" cluster from my XLT yesterday. More about that process here if you're interested. I think I'm the first to do this on a US model? Pardon making a new thread about these, but I wanted to get more eyes on these questions and the old thread disappears instantly with how fast this forum moves.
I've noticed a few things about the new cluster that are making me have second thoughts (namely that it's worth the almost $400 upgrade and actually an improvement), and I'm trying to figure out if these are related to my Forscan config or if this is just how the 12" (Lariat/Raptor) cluster is. Can anyone confirm these?
1. The bar in the fuel economy page seems to have a much slower update than the 8" screen. It jumps around and only seems to update every 1-2 seconds or so. On the 8" it was more or less instant and moved at the same rate as the speed or RPM, but a half second behind. e.g. blipping the throttle would make the MPG dip for example, and you would see a smooth drop and rise back up. Now I just see a single frame drop a second after, and a second later it snaps back up.
2. The mode select seems to be reversed... The drive modes were listed in a semi-circular vertical menu on the 8" and turning the knob left to go down the list made sense. Now on the 12" the list is across the bottom of the display L-R, but I still have to turn the knob left to advance drive modes. I found a forscan toggle labelled "Drive Mode Control Mirror", but this doesn't seem to change anything. I can't imagine this is how this is normally? AI is trying to tell me the drive mode knob is different on Lariat/Raptor, and that's what reverses it, but I find that hard to believe...
3. The turn signals are extremely quiet. If I roll my windows down I can't even hear them. It's less of a tick tick now and more of a tock tock which is less prominent. I haven't yet checked to see if it's still coming out of the speakers too, but I suspect it's not.
Appreciate any input!
