Ford Ranger 2" Lift Coil Springs - Kings vs. Dobinsons? 1edffabb-53f1-478d-a42a-7007d4eeebaf

Hi! I recently upgraded my rims to Evocorse (17x8 ET+20), paired with the stock KO2s. I'm planning to upgrade to a 2" coil spring kit so the truck doesn’t look too low (and eventually upgrade to bigger tires as well).

Between Kings and Dobinsons, which would you recommend? I’m leaning toward whichever offers a more comfortable ride, since I really enjoy the stock coils' comfort.

Thank you! Cheers.

Check out the GOAT thread on lifting.

Using lift springs or preload collars will completely ruin your live valve shocks ride quality.

My experience with swapping to aftermarket springs is that OEM spring rates are seldom identified, so the spring rate increase isn't really known just because a manufacture states their spring is some pound. Too much spring is not a good thing solely for producing a lifted vehicle. A subtle increase in spring rate for vehicle weight gain for the purpose of restoring ride height is fine. Increasing spring preload to restore ride height is acceptable too--it's done all the time and that's why you see threaded spring perch collars, or a ramp collar like with motorcycle shocks.

There is good information here in R6G, but also other sources too. Really need to know the physical and operating differences between the live valve and regular struts. Also, understanding where you want the shock/strut piston sitting in the body when parked or rolling down a flat road.
