Do you understand that the stock intake is also a "cold air intake"???
Any power gains could probably be attributed to the washable filter they use and apply only to WOT. Also, be aware that washable filters flow more air by not filtering as well as paper filters.
Agree 100%. I would only suggest a new CAI if it came with a tune and was tested to prove actual gains, otherwise stick with the OEM setup.

I’ve always wondered what the benefit of aftermarket was since this is true. Aside from running a snorkel to get higher, cleaner air, is there a significant benefit other than wanting it?

All my research, and in talking with mechanics, no real benefit unless you are adding a tune that calls for it. Otherwise, the OEM box does what it needs to. More air for no reason just adds more dirt.

For myself I see no need to replace the engine air filter on the Ranger, it comes with a very efficient cleaning element that I know is going to protect the engine and it's easy to replace. Having run tractors and combines on the farm that use paper element filters I am very confident that they do the job. The air intake on my 2.3 Ranger is up on top the radiator mount and that appears to be the best spot for sucking in outside air.

Pretty happy with my Process West intake. I did switch out the K&N for an AFE washable dry media filter. I can't attest to any HP gains. There probably aren't any until you get to WOT like most bolt on performance products but you can definitely hear the whooshing of air when standing on the gas pedal. There is no plastic in this intake. It's all aluminum. I also added a couple small drain holes. Not sure why there weren't any.

I watched your installation video. Have you asked Process West why the aluminum box doesn’t have any drain holes? Maybe they have a reason for not including them.

I never did ask them but it seems dangerous to not have them. Any liquid that gets in there has to go somewhere.
