Which is faster?
My wife likes to point out that her wrangler is faster than my ranger. And she is actually not wrong. Her jeep is fast.
It feels fast and smokes trucks and cars off the line when they try and beat us up the ramp because they think its just a wrangler and want to cut us off instead of merging properly. Its not even a 392 wrangler, just a regular ol silver 4 door with a soft top.
So, the specs:
2019 jeep wrangler sport s
4 door
2.0 turbo with e-torq hybrid system
270 hp / 295lbtq
8 speed automatic trans
Stock gears and tires
Soft top
After market front and rear steel bumpers
After market front steel skid plate
After market steel side steps
2024 ford ranger
4 door
2.3 turbo with procal tuner
322hp / 359lbtq
10 speed automatic transmission
Stock gears and tires
So i weighed both vehicles with full tanks and the same scale. I know the scale gets certified but i don't know how often it gets checked.
I am in the vehicle and i weigh 220 so minus that from each value shown.
Jeep: 4700
Ranger: 4540
Now here is the part i had trouble with. I downloaded an app in the jeep and it worked great. I took a screenshot and went back to the house to swap vehicles. I drove the ranger around to warm the engine and trans and the phone screen shut off. When i turned it back on, the app wouldn't statt the timer for 0-60 runs. It would track speed, but not times. So i downloaded like 6 more apps and couldnt get then to work either. I finally got one to download that worked so the ranger 0-60 time is recorded using a different app.
And another variation between the two vehicles that i cannot control right now. The wrangler has a hard mounted phone holder, the bullet point phone mount system where the ranger does not. I was having to out the phon in the center console and hold it in place with my right hand while accelerating. The phone stayed in place but who knows if there is some movement that effects our measurements?
So here is the screenshots of the 0-60 times. I ran mulitple times to get the feel of each vehicle before starting the timer and did each vehicle in the exact same place.
Jeep: 6.8 seconds
Ranger: 6.3 seconds
