You lose maybe 9 inches of bed length, but it is above the rails, so you still have the full box length. When rolled, you can still see out of the rear view mirror, which was a big plus in my opinion. The other thing you can do is remove the cover if you really need those 9 inches every once in a while. It comes off and on in about 10 minutes and you don’t even mess with the rails…. My first cover was defective (only two of the four bolts lined up that connect the cover to the rails) and BAK quickly sent me a new one, so A+ for customer service.

The biggest problem is that the bed itself has about 20 different leak points for water to creep in between the bed and the cab. I bought a $10 rubber grommet kit from Amazon and was able to plug most of the holes, then I used some black heavy-duty calk on the under side of the plastic rail covers between the cab and the bed. I hit a couple other tiny spots in the bed with the calk where I could see light coming through, and my water and dust problems are basically gone. I also bought a ROK BLOCK tailgate gap cover which I absolutely love. It fills in the gap between the tailgate and the bed. It pinches the tailgate at first and makes it a little more difficult to close, but it breaks in after about a week, and you won’t even notice it’s there.
