Just picked up a 26' Ranger Lariat and I'm seeing information about needing bed rail supports for a topper. Is this a thing for 26' model years? If so, this is absolutely ridiculous. It's a damn truck and supposed to do truck things and it can't handle 80 pounds on the rails?? What's next, do I need a tailgate support to sit on the tail gate? I stepped away from Ford for a bit and decided to give them another chance, but good grief I can't put a topper on without spending additional money for supports......

Please don't quote me on this, but as I recall, they fixed this with the '26 models. I believe that is why many of the tonneau covers had to be remade specifically for the '26 (i.e. the '24-'25 tonneau covers don't fit them). You may want to make certain the topper is also redesigned for a '26. Just my 2 cents worth.

Well that's a plus if it's true. We'll see what others have to say, and I'll keep researching it.

If you are referencing the “J braces”, that issue was corrected on the mid 24 MY and was a recall as well from Ford. Your 26 is GTG.

Yep, good to know. I'm scheduled to pick up my Ranger on Friday.

What are you getting?
XLT FX4 with 2.7L, Advanced Tow Package + Tech Package and spray in bed liner. There was a paint chip so they're going to fix it before I pick it up..

Very nice. I just got mine yesterday. Had planned on getting the XLT. It was at another local dealer and my dealer went to get it. Came back w/ the same truck except it was a lariat. Hemmed and hauled about spending the extra money and decided to get it. I'd place a 100 dollar bet they grabbed the lariat on purpose.

I've had a Leer shell/topper on my 24 fx4 for two years. Without a problem. Without the braces. I don't do estreme off roading. The braces prevent side to side movement of the bed. I also think it was remedied for you model.
