Hey all! Been watching a lot of the press coverage on the 2024 Ranger Raptor lately and think its a pretty awesome truck and I'd really like to go after getting one. But I've never really pursued buying a more "specialty" model like a Raptor and I'm not sure how different the process is going to be versus previous vehicles (that were nothing really special) that I've ordered.

When the order banks open later this month, can I just go to a dealer with my Build and Price printout, plop down a deposit, and put in an order like I could for other vehicles in the past? Or is there some special process that I have to go through for a special model like this?

I'm willing to open my wallet somewhat to get there, but I really don't want to be paying massive dealer markups. I'm not so much interested in being "first" I'd just like to get on a guaranteed list to have one built at some point. Are there particular dealers that are more likely to get orders for the Raptor models? I live around Denver, Colorado but I don't mind traveling to whatever corner of the country I need to if it means working with a reliable dealer that can get things done without screwing around or ripping me off. (And don't say the Grainger one in Iowa, I ordered a 2022 from them and bailed on it after I got impatient and found something else locally...I doubt they're going to want to hear from me again after that...)

Anyway, any buying advice for these more specialty models is much appreciated. I've never ventured into shopping for something like this before and just want to make sure I have my homework done first!

Thats basically what the process is going to be like. However the next few weeks we will learn more about the ordering from Ford.

For price, thats between you and the dealer. You should have already been calling dealers around you and building a relationship with them. One thing is for certain, if you are buying off the lot, you will be taxed.

Of course this should be the way it works, that’s the way it’s worked with a couple orders I’ve done before too. It might also be the way I could order one now, only because I have a good relationship with my dealer after buying a couple of vehicles there. But as always your mileage may vary. If you’re able to wait & put in an order, surely you’ll find a dealer out there who will work with you for MSRP & a quick email process.

But why not try the Grainger one? It’s been some odd times here & cancelling an order isn’t the end of the world. With such limited stock they probably sold it right away anyways. Let them tell you that they’re not interested in doing another order for you, because they might not say that.

You probably can at most dealers, however, in that it's been known they were coming for a while, most dealers have a list of customers wanting to place a Raptor order. They are going to assist these people before you. But im sure you could get an order in, in the back of a line. But a couple years to see it is very possible. Better find a high volume dealer who is able to eventually earn allocation for them. A small, low volume dealer will likely either never be able to fill your order or most certainly wont be able to timely. These models (raptors) will be turn to earn and overall sales volumes of rangers and other products will factor in to how many a dealer ultimately gets. If a dealer doesn't have enough allocation, it doesn't matter that your order is retail it still won't be built for them.

Hi guys! First post here. I just got off the phone with my local dealers manager. He confirmed there is only ONE allocation that his dealership is getting which is already sold to me (thank god). This dealership is pretty large and even he was shocked he was only getting one. The only reason I was able to get one was I was one of the long waiting bronco customers who kept getting screwed by the supply chain issues. I kept constant communication with him regarding ordering a vehicle. Once the option of getting a “rare” raptor ranger for less than the badlands sas I originally wanted I was all over it. I think you just need to be lucky or have a good relationship as a customer to be able to purchase one for msrp.

"Allocations" are done by model year. And given production actually not beginning until August/September, it wouldn't surprise me that MY2024 is a smaller, shorter run versus MY2025. Total production will probably correlate to some degree with demand - if there is alot of interest for the first year of production, expect an increase in production for 2025. Ford is probably hedging their bets due to supply chain issues, general parts cost increases, and overall US economic status.

24 model will likely be longer run as 23 was short. Job 1 should be limited and I'd expect job 2 to open things up more. I don't see 25s coming out until at least this time next yr. Could be wrong, but this is what I'd expect.

U r lucky, as it will be a good while before allocation is earned and given to dealers on the Raptor series. They all know what they are getting at first, but will have no idea what their future allocation will be until later. But higher volume dealers can expect more in the long run as it is an earned allocation model that applies, as is typical and has been done on past Raptor allocations.

The bronco orders situation also showed how allocation trumps all else.

I was speaking to the Raptor specifically. But for the regular Ranger, you're probably right. MY23 was cut short because it was the out-going model, and they had to reconfigure the plant & line to handle to new one. They may also "pre-order" alot of the trims and combinations - build a good portion "to stock," that get sent right to dealers with OEM-optimized configurations, get the truck out there, and then start fulfilling customer builds later, after they have an understanding of overall model interest.

It's all going to come down to the greed of the dealer you work with. They know they have very few coming, so it's all in how much they feel they have to make from them, and like you have said, the relationship you have with them could also factor in.

Some dealers are about the here and now (adm fees, over msrp pricing) and some are relationship oriented and play the long term game (msrp or less).

I'd try to find one that wants you as a long term client and is willing to work with you. This is getting harder by the day as mgmt pay and sales persons pay are typically tied to monthly sales $ numbers, especially in big dealerships. Hence they often only look at the short term and want to maximize their profit now, not over the long run.

Patience is going to be key with the Ranger Raptor, but at least it's finally coming to our market and over time will become more available.

oh absolutely. I’m lucky to have a solid relationship w the manager and met the owner a couple times. Having a gt350 helps as well. They know down the line I’ll be a repeat customer. That being said I’m getting it for x plan which I’ll be thrilled with.

On ford performance vehicles xplan pricing can not be used. So if they are matching xplan they are chosing to sell it to you just above invoice, but they won't receive the x-plan commission from Ford. I'd be shocked if they did that, but if you get to buy one at invoice, they really, really like you, as they'll be giving up a substantial profit opportunity. I think most even with good relationships will be happy to get msrp deals, especially in the beginning.

Ineligible Products (Effective March 8, 2023) • Bronco 2DR/4DR all body styles are ineligible for X-Plan & X-Plan Partner • Bronco 2DR/4DR First Edition E5E/E5F are ineligible for AZD-Plan • Bronco 2DR/4DR Raptor E5J are ineligible for AXZD-Plan • Bronco 2DR/4DR Heritage Limited Edition are ineligible for AXZDPlan • Bronco Sport Heritage Limited Edition are ineligible for AXZD-Plan • 2023 Mach-E is ineligible for X-Plan & X-Plan Partner • Mustang Dark Horse • Mustang Shelby GT500 • Mustang Mach1 • Ford GT • F-150 Raptor • F-150 Lightning is ineligible for X-Plan & X-Plan Partner • F-450 & F-550 Chassis Cabs • E-Series: E-450 Cutaway & E-450 Stripped Chassis • F-Series Stripped Chassis: F-53 Class A Motorhome Chassis & F59 Commercial Stripped Chassis • F-650 & F-750 Chassis Cabs • E-Transit is ineligible for X-Plan & X-Plan Partner

Important note as many like to brag they got plan pricing and negotiated extra off. Can't happen! Plan pricing is fixed and a binding contract/worksheet must be signed by both parties illustrating plan pricing as well as a copy of the original invoice for the vehicle.

New here as well...How much are most dealers asking for in a deposit to get on the allocation list. I was able to secure #1 allocation at a local dealer with no deposit. Spoke to another dealer and they wanted a $500 non refundable deposit. Didnt want to put down a non refundable when I dont even know how much over msrp they are gonna charge (was told atleast $5k)
