Those T@Gs are nice and yours will probably outlast my Sunray. The RV dealer didn't have the right brake controller for the Ranger (they only carry Tekonsha). Trailer brakes aren't required in SC below 3000 lbs but since the trailer has the upgraded axle with brakes I plan to install the Redarc Liberty unit that fits the Ranger in myself. I've towed heavier trailers without brakes with other vehicles which all stopped fine and the Sunray (at about 1500lbs loaded) was no problem at all. I don't see you having a problem, even loaded up with gear, food, etc.

Great, thanks! I’ve towed this camper with a Silverado and a RAM 1500 with no issues, but those trucks both had better feeling brakes. I’m pretty confident the Ranger will be okay too. We’ll see.

Have looked at those LiFePO4's and wondered about charging when the temp is below freezing. I'm guessing it will use some energy to keep itself warm enough the safely charge? which would definitely be a better option than AGM.

I converted to LiFePO4 too, one that has a built-in heater. I’m sure the heater uses some energy but can’t speak to how much. Probably not enough to drain the battery before my own cold weather tolerance runs out!

Being in Arizona I didn't look for cold weather issues, but I see some have a low temp cutoff, and some have a heating mode to protect during charging.

h1k3rb, that is a cool little trailer! Buy a trailer TPMS and remote monitor so you can watch for overheated bearings and air leaks. The tires are probably 50 psi (max) rated, I believe you have a 3500 pound axle. You should *NOT* keep them inflated rock hard, it will beat the crap out of the frame, cabin and your belongings. Weigh the trailer fully loaded with your stuff and water, and use a load/ tire pressure chart for your particular tire to determine how much air you should run. I bet 30 to 35 psi would be appropriate.

Good thoughts on changing the tire pressure. I did the same for some Goodyear Endurance tires and really backed off the max pressure. What I found is you can go to the tire mfg website and find a weight load / tire pressure chart. Better than guessing, avoid under inflation too.

Nice! I’m jealous of the mpg. I bought a Rög square drop in November and averaged 11 pulling it back from Michigan with my dad’s truck. Hopefully it does better locally.

That's a cool rig!
The weight isn't the big issue hurting mpg with trailers this size, it's the aerodynamics.
Look at those racks and cross bars and side ladder, etc. it's dreadfully to aerodynamics.

Driving through alabama the other day, i saw a black 6th gen ranger towing a t@b trailer. It was heading south on i85, i think, from montgomery to mobile.

I was in my ranger but they were right behind a semi so they may have not seen me

Just like how your jurisdiction says under 3k Lbs your fine. my province has no weight limit, they however do state, that if it is a manufacturer saftey item either standard equipment, or a factory option added on the production line, it has to be functional. if I were add brakes myself, then its optional to have them working.

Since my trailer had the upgraded axle with electric brakes I went ahead and installed the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller w/Custom Harness from etrailer.com. The included adapter plugged right into the truck harness under the dash and it works great. The truck stopped well without it so didn't really seem necessary but could make a difference between accident or not in extreme situations.
