Ok I gave up. Traded it back in. Could not sit an wait for total cam phaser melt down. Still not sure how Ford lets this known issue occur. But I'm out.
It's always a business decision. Ford knows it's a problem and have acknowledged it. But they've run the numbers and probably determined that it's cheaper to warranty a handful of VCT failures than to spend more money on R&D, spin up new tooling, new SKU tracking at assembly, maybe new training for engine assembly/repair (etc), to fix it...and possibly only to introduce a different problem somewhere along the line.

Every large company operates like this.

I would consider it important since they have to take the engine out of a brand new $50k+ truck to change them.
What I meant was it's not really important to know HOW they fail, since there is no way to service them other than to replace them. Ya it's a major repair, and that is irritating. This is not 100% specific to Ford either, other makes have this problem as well

the gen 2 raptors cost for ~$4500 per cam phaser fix. They redesigned the part in 2019 to fix the issue altogether. They will do the same for the 3.0 at some point is my guess.

Has anyone done a poll on this to see how many have had a problem. This is the one thing that worries me a bit.

Oh I'm sure you are spot on. And it's done all the time by all the makers. But when it come high performance limited build vehicles. Sorry not acceptable. Negates the complete logic.

If you Google it there are many discussions and other forums posting in what I consider large numbers. Look I work for a dealership and I spoke to my techs. It's just not good no matter what. That's what prompted my to dump mine.

A way to circumvent the lack of oil pressure at startup is to;

1. Hold the brake and push the accelerator to the floor, then push the start button.

2. Hold the starter button for about 3 seconds and the oil pressure will build exponentially.

3. Take your foot off the accelerator and it will start with full oil pressure to the top end.

Another way is to install this; thanks Chad @Mad_Motorhead

That's fine you dumped yours. But I'm not sure squeaky wheels on the internet means "large numbers". For every 1 person saying they have a problem there may be hundreds that don't have a problem, or don't care about posing on the internet.

The only way to know is collect some data. /shrug

That maybe, but it also ruins their reputation. Look at Toyota, they carefully built up a reputation for reliability over the years only to mess it up with recent failures.

Every car brand has problems. Toyota hasnt been immune to this over the years, its just that the issues with them have been small.

You be you. But your missing. The point. You don't build a performance beast with a known issue motor and call it a success. Regardless of number of failures the fact that there is enough is enough.
