I just got back from a camping trip in Colorado, where i did a bit of 4x4'in with the Ol' Ranger.

Ford Ranger Camping Trip to Colorado with FX4 Ranger 2.7L 20250811_143324

Truck spec's
- 2024 XLT FX4 with stock tires and no lift/level
- S&B air filter
- CV Fabrication Intercooler (with 2 decals for extra 20hp)
- Turbosmart back blow-off valve
- RIVAL skid plate(s) just waiting for transfer case plate

TRAIL#1: was near Transfer Park Campground on a road called East Florida.

Trail was fun and only had a few minor hits on the bash plates, nothing serious just added some character to the underside of the truck. made it half way up when my friend got a flat, we decided to turn around after we replaced his tire.

TRAIL#2: was just outside of Silverton on a road called Arrasta Gulch to Little Giant Basin.

This trail was awesome! Great views and some nice hairpin turns. Not for the faint hearted, there are some very steep drop-offs... (never felt unsafe though). I made a video of the crawl down the mountain that i will try to upload to YouTube later.

Overall the truck handled the trails with ease, I mainly used 4 High going up and 4 Low going down. Shifting was perfect in 4 High, where i used manual gear 1 and 2 (for the most part) In 4 Low i kept it in 1st gear at/under 5mph. My dumbass forgot about the trail-control feature, so ill have to try that out next time... Breaks felt fine, never smelt them overheating. The engine/trans/turbo's never overheated and always kept purring along at normal temps.

For the future, I'd like to get a little more clearance and some bigger tires

Thanks for watching!

Nice write-up. Have the same truck and wondered if these stock tires would be OK on rocky road trails. I guess you answered that. Glad you had a great time and look forward to your youtube video. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks... I was worried at first, since so many people bash these tires. But to be honest they work just fine. When these wear out I'll probably go with some ko2 33s with a 2.5in lift in the front. 1in in the back.

I know the area well as I've been playing in the Rockies for 50 years now. Thanks for sharing your journey and highlighting Colorado.

Very nice. I live in CO but am not familiar with those roads (pretty far from me). Glad you made good use of the truck.
I’ve been wondering about trying some 4/10 rated trails. Hardest I’ve done yet is 3 in my stock FX4 (though I’ve changed tires).
