I just got back from a camping trip in Colorado, where i did a bit of 4x4'in with the Ol' Ranger.
Truck spec's
- 2024 XLT FX4 with stock tires and no lift/level
- S&B air filter
- CV Fabrication Intercooler (with 2 decals for extra 20hp)
- Turbosmart back blow-off valve
- RIVAL skid plate(s) just waiting for transfer case plate
TRAIL#1: was near Transfer Park Campground on a road called East Florida.
Trail was fun and only had a few minor hits on the bash plates, nothing serious just added some character to the underside of the truck. made it half way up when my friend got a flat, we decided to turn around after we replaced his tire.
TRAIL#2: was just outside of Silverton on a road called Arrasta Gulch to Little Giant Basin.
This trail was awesome! Great views and some nice hairpin turns. Not for the faint hearted, there are some very steep drop-offs... (never felt unsafe though). I made a video of the crawl down the mountain that i will try to upload to YouTube later.
Overall the truck handled the trails with ease, I mainly used 4 High going up and 4 Low going down. Shifting was perfect in 4 High, where i used manual gear 1 and 2 (for the most part) In 4 Low i kept it in 1st gear at/under 5mph. My dumbass forgot about the trail-control feature, so ill have to try that out next time... Breaks felt fine, never smelt them overheating. The engine/trans/turbo's never overheated and always kept purring along at normal temps.
For the future, I'd like to get a little more clearance and some bigger tires
Thanks for watching!
