Just wanted to share this that I found after removing the driveshaft pair to paint. Called/emailed tech support at Dana Spicer and shared photos at their request on Monday but they haven't got back, all I can do is plug it with JB weld. One guy not an engineer was surprised howuch rust was there and I told him that was like that right off Dealer lot, I'm interested why they used to paint them black and now nothing, seems like a cost cutting thing...not sure. At some point the defect was marked with pink paint so it must have been a known defect I'd think.

I'm not convinced it's a high quality part, certainly doesn't look like it on close inspection

Not to be Capt. obvious but It appears the ends are welded on by a robot and that hole is the start/stop spot. Actually shouldn’t be an issue as far as structural integrity.

I can run with that, but why would none of the other similar welds have that as well? I don't think it's going to fall apart but did want to ask Dana/Spicer directly

I don’t blame u at all for reaching out to them… it may be a manufacturing defect. Most Ranger buyers probably never look at the ds for issues. Hopefully they can ease your mind.

I've been through it front to back and top to bottom, and still took me awhile to get to this, but it's not as much the structural integrity as checking to see what Dana/Spicer has to say if anything. I really went into thinking they would basically say nothing being as I didn't purchase it directly from them, but maybe they still care somehow to help me out even with just saying something. Probing the void it goes perhaps to center so I was wondering about water intrusion. Even the tech line associate was surprised it looks like well used toilet wax but at least when it goes back together it will look halfway decent
