Finally Cracked the 27 MPG Barrier

Been driving the same 160 mile rountrip (not all flat ground) to the airport and back at 70-72 mph numerous times since I have had the truck. Two people on board and no A/C on. Computer always shows low 22 mpg with hand calculation usually mid 21's. Went to pickup wife at airport the other day and had a little extra time to spare so set cruise control on 65 mph and with A/C on - so one pasasenger going up, but two coming back. I could not believe my eyes, computer said 27.7 and hand calculation was 27.3 mpg. Filled and re-filled at same gas pump. I am blown away - how can that little drop in speed make that much difference ??

the bow wave of air you're are trying to push at the speed is so much different, i guess. i have gotten 27 two or three times but i do have to stay a little lower then the speed limits posted on the highways here in texas

Went a 300 mile trip in my Ranger Lariat Fx4. Cruse control set at 73 & AC on. One passenger in the truck.. Got as high as 28 mpg.. Total average round trip was 26.7mpg.

the place i got the best gas mileage ever in a bad gas mileage vehicle was in colorado springs.

i would like to take the ranger there and see what i can get out of it, just to see if i can break into the 30s.

my 400hp, 5.9 second 2017 nissan titan got 23 mpg driving around colorado springs every time we went to visit my son in the 3.5 years he was stationed there. it got 12-13 driving around the town i live in and 17 on the highway, if i was lucky that day.
