Just offering clarification for those of you looking at the Ford Performance tune and speaking in detail to their rep about it in the past with my Mustang and Bronco.

Going with the Ford tune is not covered by your warranty. Meaning you are still liable to pay for any repairs that are needed due to the tune. So it’s just like getting any other aftermarket tune in terms of not being covered by your powertrain warranty.

The 3 year warranty is a seperate 3 year / 36000 warranty that starts from your vehicle date of purchase and is offered directly from Ford Performance. You may have warranty work rejected depending on the issue. That said the performance tune has been proven to be safe and people have had minimal problems with it but it’s good to have all the facts.

I just wanted to pass on that information which has been posted many times before in other forums so anyone considering this tune can make an informed decision on their Ranger / Raptor and be aware of the change to their warranty cause I often see people say blanket statements like it’s “fully covered” but that’s not necessarily true.

I’m not for or against tuning it’s your truck do whatever you want!

You make it sound like a tune is a guarantee for issues. Is there a reason for your warning? Something happen? Or are you really a sales person trying to stop people from buying a ranger and tuning it vs buying something else.

What percentage of ford trucks with performance tunes have issues and what the average repair cost is?

I've had the 2.0L ford tune for thousands of miles with no issues other than a way more responsive vehicle (arguably what it should have been from the factory).

You've gotta keep in mind, this is a Ford authorized calibration. They aren't going to sell something to their customers if the likelihood of engine failure is substantially higher. If you're constantly bouncing the redline your engine is going to fail regardless of a tune.

I totally get that and clarified my post. I’ve tuned many vehicles without issue and had a few that did have turbo issues which Ford didn’t cover. My Bronco was rock solid though for 35k miles.

I think the Ford performance tune is very safe but people should be aware of how it affects their warranty and I’m just passing on that info so they can make an informed decision. It should also be installed by a Ford ASE certified technician. There’s a lot of misinformation going around about this tune being “fully covered by warranty” and thats not necessarily true.

If I tune mine I'll go with either MPT or Goosetuned.
