The RR started making a grinding noise a few weeks ago that I only noticed backing into the driveway at very low speeds. (under five mph). I had it out on some forest service roads this weekend, and the grinding noise worsened through the weekend.

I dropped the truck off for service this morning and will update the forum when I get a diagnosis from the technicians. I would like to hear what some of you think might be causing this.

Of note: The sound does not go away changing from 4wd to 2wd or 4lo. I didn't notice any sounds before having the J braces installed.

My initial guess is the brake rotor shield may have been hit when the truck was being worked on and is rubbing at certain angles but who knows? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Video of noise attached.

Sounds like brake rotor shield like u said or just some corrosion on the caliper but unlikely if u drove it around a while and did hard braking. Just kinda common near the coast to have the corrosion if left to sit for a few weeks. Makes a very similar sound.

I'm hoping it's just a rotor shield. I will update if that is the case.

Me too. Meant Rotor** not Caliper by the way. Mistyped. Hopefully not a big deal either way.

Hi Richie! I can look into your Ranger's noise concern on my end. To get started, could you please send a private message over with the name/location of your local Ford dealer and your Ranger's VIN?

Ford keeps asking for all this but I never see a resolution? Are you just collecting issues? I've done this three separate times

Don't expect anything substantial from them. They've never been anything more than Cheerleaders for happy customers here. That account is probably monitored by a small group of media relations/marketing interns with a very small set of actions they can involve themselves in as they are learning the biz 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♀️

Agree. Just hate the false hope.

I appreciate Ford identifying issues and paying attention to customers. Even if this information is being funneled somewhere behind the scenes.

After the truck came back the rotor shields were adjusted and I haven’t heard the noise since. I’m very relieved about this.

Any updates on this issue?
I Have the exact same noise on my 2024 diesel RR. The noise is there when accelerating and continues for a second or two after releasing throttle. Same whether 2H 4H or 4A. Noise goes away when transmission is in neutral.
