Just finished the install which ran into some unexpected issues. First, Retrax had been holding back an approved "application" (ie 2026 specific fit) for a while, and mine must have been one of the first releases. The update were due to changes in the sidewall layout. I encountered a few problems, which Ive outlined below:
1) The posted instructions and video were still specific to the 2024/5 models and included reference to mounting brackets that are not required for the 2026 model.
2) The box included a 1" thick seal for the bulkhead wall. This is too thick and does not allow the bulkhead end of the cover to sit low enough, even with a. fair bit of downward pressure. We had to remove it and instead used a previously purchased â…›" seal I had on hand to make up the difference between the bulkhead and side walls.
3) The tie down at the cab end of the bed prevent the canister from going far enough towards the cab for the tailgate to close. See attached photo. It also prevents a more effective seal at the cab end. We had to remove those two cleats. Unfortunately, Ford, in their infinite wisdom had left the cleats attached when applying the spray in bed liner. Removing these cleats was a time consuming chore. One set came off with great effort after cutting away the sealant. The other would not budge. One Torx wrench eventually sheared off. Nothing we did would move those Torx screws. We had to eventually cut away the cleat itself. Suggestions for how we should have done this would be welcome, although I hope I never have to encounter this problem again.
4) As noted in other posts, the 2026 Ranger Bed has more holes than. kitchen colander. I used waterproof RV repair tape on both sides of the holes to minimise water ingress.
5) The 2026 ranger has a sheet of white "noise and vibration" material behind the driver's side of the cab. Unfortunately this also covers the back side of the driver's side oval panels though which I drilled a hole for the Retrax drain tube. I had to use a long narrow stick to poke the material away so the drain tube can do its job. Any opinions as to whether this material actually helps vs becoming a moisture and dirt magnet?
The rest of the install one smoothly enough, although we had to make quite a few clamp/screw adjustments to get the tracks to be parallel. I have to credit Retrax support for quickly answering several clarifying questions along the way (including sending updated instructions omitting the mounting brackets), and I hope that my experience helps them refine their instructions. If you run into problems, go directly to them, RealTruck did not really help and did not forward any pertinent information when escalating my questions to Retrax.

This was a lot to go through. I sincerely apologize for the hassle, and for our team dropping the ball. This is never the experience we want for our customers, and it's understandably frustrating.

I appreciate you taking the time to put this together with detail. If you have time can you DM me or email me? My email is [email protected]. I'd like to take a closer look at this and find out more about your experience.

Hey, we took a look into everything on our end. It looks like the order wasn’t placed through RealTruck, but you did reach out to our team for help, which is totally fine. From there, we connected you with Retrax customer service, and they were able to go through everything with you as well.

I also followed up with you via email, but feel free to reach out if there’s anything else we can help with. We’re always happy to assist however we can. :sunglasses:

You're right, it was through another vendor, but the instructions pointed me at Real Truck for support. They forwarded me to Retrax (but without any of my data), and as I mentioned above, Retrax support was quick and helpful. Thanks again!

Well months later and Retrax hasn't really done anything different. After waiting for months for updates on the new removable canister model, some moron canceled my order and I ended up with this RetraxPRO XR as a 'quick fix' (that still took a month to get).

The cover finally arrived today and was missing 11 of the 12 shims and one of the clamps missing the rubber bumper to protect the bedside.

I highlighted your second point as they have not modified the bulkhead 'seal'. It's stll a gigantically oversized seal that would make sense for the thicker bed rail covers on the 24/25 but zero sense on the 26. So the canister will not sit flat at all. I'm glad I found this thread because I could not for the life of me make sense of how the canister was supposed to sit with that monster seal in the way.

the only thing they did update in the directions was that if you have tie down cleats up front you'll need to remove them. I had the same struggles you did. 3 of the 4 torx came out ok but the 4th stripped and caused me to have to trim the cleat out.

So let this be a word of caution to anyone shopping for a cover.

Who knows what else i'll run into once I have the parts to move forward.

I got an induction heater from Amazon and it worked perfectly in this application. I heated the bolts for 10-15 seconds and let them cool a bit and then heated them again. At that point, they liner materials comes right off. Keep in mind that these are help in place with red threadlock which is semi permanent. I also bought a Torx Plus kit which grabs the torx screw much better that a standard torx bit. When I was ready to remove the screw, i heated it again, and it started coming lose.
