The differentials have both a drain and fill plug making it very easy. Likewise, the transfer case very straightforward. I use the motorcraft 75w85 and mercon LV.

The only question, for those that have done it, is I had the truck on a lift which had the rear axle at full droop. Thus, when I drained it immediately ran out of the fill plug which I removed first. Quite a bit drained out given the angle.. thus when I went to fill I only put in a couple quarts then dropped it on the ground and topped it off from there. It took almost the entire 3 quarts. I know it says 2.5 but I have yet to change a differential that doesn't use the fill plug height as the quantity under a factory setting.

Rear differential.... Field to bottom of fill plug or only put in exactly 2.5 ports?

I plan on doing the transmission next weekend. I want to give a good look at it and ours is actually much easier than the F-150. The only challenge is getting the fluid up to 200° which I have yet to see even pulling my boat in the summertime.

I've only known to fill to bottom of fill hole, so yeah yI think you're all good in practice.

BTW what rear ends do they put in these Rangers these days, I read somewhere on this forum that they are the D-44's?

I believe the regular Ranger uses the Dana m220.
