I just installed mine myself and paid a shop with an ASE tech to give me an invoice with his ASE number. For what it's worth, I have taken my truck in for multiple repairs (some pretty substantial) and none of the service advisors cared in the slightest about the tune, I told them it was installed and that was that. I would be curious if anyone on this forum has actually been told to provide proof of installation or if most people are worrying themselves to death over nothing. Maybe I am just lucky and have some cool dealers around me.
I won't take such a chance- too much to lose should it ever go bad... too easy for the dealer to say it's on me, been there-

Next time get a jb4. Easy install yourself and you can easily remove it if you need to take the car in for warranty..plus it makes more power and torque than the Procal, has a way better app and UI with 6 maps to choose from, including a custom map.

I spoke with Ford Performance and then my dealership regarding the warranty. Basically they both stated that after the Ford Performance warranty expires, it's basically up to Ford corporate to make the call on covering any powertrain related issues thereafter.
It was a hard decision for me to make on the Ranger as I've modified every car/truck/Motorcycle I've owned.
In this case, preservation of the factory and extended warranty takes priority over installing the tune.
The car parked next to the Ranger makes more than 2 1/2 times the power so thrill rides are never an issue for me.
The 2.7 is no slouch in stock form and continues to impress with it's ability to embarrass 5.3 Chevy/GMC truck owners (3 so far) that have challenged me at the stop light so far.

They require a copy of a shop invoice that employs ASE techs afaik.

I did my own install (ASE master tech) and called FP to find out what was needed from a documentation standpoint. They told me I didn't need anything to retain the warranty. I have done installs for a couple other folks and just wrote an invoice with the info and ASE# on it, but it doesn't seem like Ford/FP care about that at all.

So did you even have to register anything with FP with an ASE # for you or them? Or do your friends just keep that invoice on file in case something comes up later?

Your right. People are paranoid over nothing.

I gave them the invoice/info so there was no question or concerns. I called my own in just to see and the FP guy didn't want or need anything from me or the certs, just said that it's registered to the VIN and all good.

Some have said it, I will say it again, find an ASE certified tech, have him sit with you for the 15-30 minutes, do it yourself and get a receipt.

Wow, Londonderry NH ford did mine with zero issues. I had to pre download the software on my personal laptop, the tech set up the module with me in the waiting room, then we went into the bay and flashed the ECU. Years prior, Salem NH Ford did the same to my 2016 S550 mustang ecoboost but Salem Ford sucks since they moved locations, so I'd never recomend them.

OP paid for it to be installed by a Ford dealer, it's a silly suggestion to have him pay again at a separate mechanic to get it installed and retain the warranty.
Have it done by a certified mechanic then ask for a refund from Ford.

No offense, but it really is a simple process. I get why people get the dealerships to install them, but it’s truly easier to do on your own.
Unless you’re rich and don’t care about voiding your warranty, sure.
Please don’t give terrible advice like this

dude this shit is easy as hell. The problem is the instructions are dogshit I am an engineer so it was obvious how it works. If you need some help, message me man.

The key is understanding how it works:
(1) you go to the site and enter your code to add to tune yo your ford performance account
(2) Then you download the tun file
(3) you import the tune file into the FP SW.
(4) It downloaded into the OBDII box.
(5) You use the box to install it into the car
(6) your car will shut off/on a couple times
(7) Turn on your truck engine and for the first minute it's going to run like shit as the tuning parameters adjust.
(8) drive truck normally for 20 min and slowly through time add more throttle

Done
Does anyone know if doing the tune at home will have any effect on the extended warranty?

I have the extended warranty as well. Not sure. I mean if we just reset it back to stock if there is an issue, I think it will be fine. I don't think a tech is going to do detective work ... i.e. check FP website, see if we have a FP tune license and ID an issue root cause from their own tune. Doesn't make sense to me.

It's THEIR product and they gave us instructions in the box so WTF.

How will a dealer deny a claim if the SW is stock? Sure there might be logs that we can't ID, but a tech is going to check for codes, recommend a fix and get approval, not play detective.

That's my logic anyways. If they do push it, I will push back hard.

I bought the truck, I love the truck, and I want it the way I want it to be, within reason, and me installing it myself is fair.

That's my 2 cents FWIW =/
