I think I am leaning this way as well since changing the tip does nothing for sound and I don't want to cut parts off LOL.. what paint did you use? Spray can?

No, I actually used Flat Black Rust-Oleum. Had it in the cabinet. Masked the inner location all the way around pipe and painted with fresh brush. Ha! Been on there for 1200 miles. If I was buying it, would get high temp grill paint in flat or satin black.
