I like it! Great idea! Not to rain on your parade, but with an item like a tablet mounted there, is it still airbag compliant?
As a retired first responder I would be sure to disable the passenger air bag before using this. Air bags deploy at insane speeds.

The airbags in these trucks deploy from the top of the dash, not behind this mount. And, most people will use this with RAM balls, not giant Baja navigation systems. 😁

I just wonder if anyone has devised a way to use the mini 'storage area' to the left of the steering wheel. Seems like it would have been a good place to keep loose change, if only it had a lip on it... Thinking someone needs to manufacture a rubber liner with lip or 3D print a tray insert.

county highway tried to mount a curved steel hanger for my license scanner on the passenger side of my laptop, i said i sit in the passenger seat all the time while FTO'ing rookies, I dont want that airbag sending that gut hook into me so i moved it behind the laptop. People don't think about airbags and their velocity when they mount things in the vehicles...

The idea that the driver will never use the nav device is just silly, he is not SUPPOSED to use it while driving, but in reality he needs to easily view and access it. Not everybody drives with a passenger, not all passengers want to navigate, not all passengers even know how to…..

I agree that the airbag is a big risk, I am not sure if an insurance claim would be accepted if somebody got hurt on your pretty bracket. Have you fully considered the product liability problem?

This is my RAM Tough Wedge with bladder insert, a small RAM tablet holder and an iPad Mini 6, , it works very well onroad and 90% well offroad - it has some wobble and you need to pump the pressure bulb every day to account for changes in temperature and any slight leakage. I sometimes have a passenger, she has no Interest in navigating or even looking at the display.

I'm not sure what your point is about the passenger using navigation. The product does not dictate what you mount on it or who uses it. If you're referring to the Garmin Tread XL mount, it is specifically built for co-pilot navigation (ex Baja trips, off-road events, etc). If that isn't suitable for your mission, that's understandable. You can decide what you want to mount and mount something else that can be driver oriented.

In my truck I have an iPad mounted to a RAM arm. It's rock solid and completely out of the way for the passenger and any airbag concerns.

The product is the base mount, not the Garmin Tread XL mount. It will be more clear when we get the product page launched.

I was really happy to get out from behind the myriad of shrapnel while being an FTO!🤣🍻

I’ve seen a speaker magnet from a trunk kill a front seat passenger. The passenger side air bag is very large and will take anything in front of it toward any passenger. All I’m saying is without crash testing it’s not going in my vehicle, but you do you.🍻

I feel your pain! .. I found myself forgoing my own personal safety 95% of the time. Only had 1 guy who washed himself out that I finally sent him to the car while I was 3 on 1 interviewing burglary suspects, I already knew who I had to engage 1st if the SHTF.

I think everyone is getting thrown off by the Tread XL.. if you look at the more recent photos, the sidekick mount appears to be a way to attach 1” ball mounts, plus some specialized mounts (like the tread one).

I think this will be great to mount things like iPads, passenger cell phones, comms mic, spotter handheld radios, etc. really just about anything.

Shame iPads don’t do CarPlay, a passenger could run ONX and CarPlay it to the screen.
